Hello! I'm so glad that we are crossing paths. Making the decision to start therapy or change providers can be difficult. Change is hard and scary but you're here. It is my biggest hope that you connect with someone who works well with you and that you get some relief from the therapeutic process. Let me tell you a little about me so that you can decide if I will be a good fit for you. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with more than 20 years of experience in mental health care. I have worked in a variety of settings including hospitals, agencies and private practice. I graduated with my Master's degree from Loyola University of Chicago in 2001 and a Bachelor's in Psychology from the university of Chicago in 1994. I use predominantly psychodynamic and narrative approaches to therapy in order to help understand the roots of your issues, discover thought and behavioral patterns that aren't working for you, and build new patterns that will work better. I help with building coping skills and use analogies and metaphors to simplify problems. I'm also known to use humor.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I always tell my new clients that our first session is just a jumping off point. It will take time to get all of the pieces of the puzzle on the table, but I'm not in a hurry and will go at your pace. When we first meet, you can expect time to: 1. Review confidentiality and contact information, 2. Tell me what has been going on in your life and what brings you to therapy, 3. Ask questions, and 4. Develop a plan.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I'd like to tell you what my strengths are as a provider by referring to feedback I have received from my clients over the years. Foremost, I am told that I am not a wallflower. I gently push clients to explore their stories and behaviors. I use analogies and metaphors to break things into bite-sized pieces. I employ humor as appropriate in sessions. I am compassionate and empathetic.

My treatment methods

Psychodynamic

I use a psychodynamic approach to therapy to aid with better understanding some of the root causes of distress, exploring thought and behavioral patterns that stem from these root causes and working to find ways to adapt new patterns using the insight gained from this exploration.

Narrative

I used narrative therapy in combination with a psychodynamic approach in order to explore mindsets, shame messages and internalized stories/core beliefs.
