Hello , I am a licensed social worker based in Ohio. And I also am licensed in California. I have been practicing for close to 40 years, so have a great deal of professional and life experience, that I can apply to my work with clients. I am motivated to help adults of any age, move forward with their lives. And also there to help clients develop healthy skills that they can utilize, to become their "best selves." My approach is short term/solution focused. I also see myself as a life coach for many of my clients. I am a regular practitioner of yoga and meditation and enjoy bringing elements of these practices into my work as well. I also love animals and enjoy hiking and biking in nature.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
I believe healing happens best in a space where you can feel safe, seen and cared for and in our first session, I try to really hear and understand, what issues you are most concerned about and to understand specific challenges you may be facing. I then can work with you to develop goals to get you on your way to a healthier life and manage the stressors that you are dealing with.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I have many years of experience in the mental health field working in a variety of settings with diverse populations. And years of life experience. I am very goal oriented, pragmatic and focus on helping clients learn tools and strategies to help them manage the issues that are challenging them. Additionally, I feel my role is not to "fix" you, but to walk alongside with you and help you make sense of your personal story and concerns.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I have a special interest and experience in working with clients who struggle with anxiety, panic, OCD, cancer, bereavement, chronic health issues, post partum issues and various life stressors. And clients who are motivated to change and want pragmatic skills and strategies to move forward in their lives as quickly as possible. I offer primarily short term/solution focused therapy. * I do not work with clients virtually who have high risk concerns; such as suicidal ideation, serious substance abuse issues, significant addiction issues or domestic violence concerns. So if you present with these challenges, I will have to refer you out to providers I feel are better able to manage these situations.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have been trained intensively and utilize CBT skills to help my clients change unhealthy thinking and behavioral patterns in various areas of their lives. And to help my clients learn how to challenge these thoughts and behaviors into healthier more productive patterns. CBT approaches can be very helpful for those especially experiencing depression, anxiety and OCD.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
I have been trained intensively in mindfulness and utilize mindfulness based approaches with my clients to help them become more grounded and present, which allows then to better manage their stressors and mental health issues. This approach helps individuals break free from chronic ruminative, and automatic negative thought patterns. It is helpful for all of us and especially beneficial for depression, OCD, anxiety and stress.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I have been trained and utilize many skills from DBT to help my clients. DBT is a structured, evidence based psychotherapy adapted from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy designed to help people manage intense emotions, reduce self harming behaviors and build a "life worth living." IT focuses on the "dialectical" balance between validating/accepting emotions and implementing positive behavioral changes. And focuses on strategies to manage emotions, distress tolerance and improve interpersonal skills.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
I feel it is important to help to focus on how you are functioning and coping in the present. I will spend time during the sessions, helping you identify issues, developing problem solving skills and tools and to set clear and specific action steps as a way to move towards your goals.
Schema Therapy
Sometimes traditional therapy is not enough, so I sometimes utilize Schema Therapy which is an expansion of CBT. This helps clients stuck in life traps and self defeating patterns such as subjugation (people pleasers), dependency and abandonment issues). Schema therapy helps clients with negative thoughts and behavior, to develop healthier life patterns and emotional responses.
