Hi, my name is Heather and I'm looking forward to working with you. I've worked in social services for 15 years; and as a therapist for the past 5 years. I've worked across the age spectrum including with special populations: addictions, disabilities, and chronic illness; and in focus areas including anger, ADHD, school, self-esteem, grief and loss. I've also worked with parents and launders including career success and life-transition.
My approach is both strengths based and client centered; sensitive and responsive to meeting you where your at and move in a direction and speed at which you are comfortable; while also challenging you in an appropriate and supportive way. I am a facilitator of the work that you are doing and at the end of every session, you should've been left with a gift that you're able to take with you and make yours on this journey we call life.
Through my experience as a mental health therapist, I've come to understand that my strength is "safety"; especially in creating a safe therapeutic holding environment where the hard work can be done. I say "hard" but I view psychological skills as "being out of shape" and we work each week with very specific (not general) exercises to help build our inner strength. Like any regiment, commitment and consistency is key.
