Your First Session – The Intake Our first session, often called an intake, is focused on helping you feel comfortable and supported. During this time: I’ll get to know you, your background, and the concerns or challenges you’re facing. You’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about therapy or my approach. Together, we’ll begin developing a personalized treatment plan with realistic, achievable goals based on your needs and expectations for therapy. The intake is the first step in building a collaborative, trusting relationship so we can work toward the changes you want to see.

Our first session went very well. She made me feel comfortable, and safe, allowing me to share my life story and feelings openly with her. She is a great listener, with helpful feedback along the way. She has great ideas for coping with my issues and I think she is going to be a perfect fit for me.

I have been a client of Barbara for several years now and I am beyond grateful that I found her. She is so warm, caring, open-minded, supportive, and just such a positive person who truly, genuinely cares. I can always trust her and know that she will know how to guide me in the right direction for whatever I am needing. I couldn't recommend Barbara enough!!!
I have been using various forms of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for many years. I help clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and actions are interconnected. Together, we work on strategies and coping skills to identify, challenge, and change unhelpful thoughts and thought patterns that may be contributing to their difficulties.
I also use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients face their experiences rather than avoid them—especially when those experiences feel too painful to acknowledge. Through ACT, clients will: - Learn to accept their feelings about a situation while still moving toward what truly matters to them - Examine unhelpful thinking patterns and notice how these patterns affect their body and interactions - Practice pausing and using mindfulness to bring themselves into the present moment - I also teach the GLAD technique, which encourages reflection on: G – What you are Grateful for L – What you Learned A – What you Accomplished D – What you are Delighted about This approach helps clients develop acceptance, self-awareness, and a more balanced perspective on their lives.
I use Compassion-Focused Therapy to help clients develop compassion and self-compassion, especially when they are struggling with feelings of shame, guilt, or harsh self-criticism.
In working with childlren and families, i pull from PCIT to help young children who are presenting with disruptive behaviors learn how to manage their frustrations in an appropriate manner. I also work with parents to learn how they can enhance their relationship with their child by learning effective emotional communication skills and positive interaction with their child. PCIT has two phases: Child directed interaction and Parent child interaction.
I have used grief therapy for those that have experienced a loss in their life and are struggling with intense feelings of loss that may be having an impact on their daily living. I bring CBT into Grief therapy .
