Joanna is a Native American/Indigenous queer womxn of color attuned to the intersectionality of her existence which allows her firsthand experience to the unique intricacies of a person. Her values are rooted in community, social justice, shared learning, and the consideration of how one’s actions impact the next seven generations. She is person centered, viewing therapy as collaborative partnership, she is non-judgmental and works to foster a safe space to facilitate healing.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

I believe the best start to a relationship - in therapy or anywhere - is conversational. In therapy, this allows me and my clients a chance to connect through a natural flow of discussions. I find this reduces pressure and nerves one may be experiencing, finding topics to touch on that are led by the client, giving them autonomy to share what matters to them.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am a relational therapist, this means I open up some about myself, joke and can be silly, am kind and encouraging, and try to be myself whether in or out of a therpist role.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

Joanna has been in the field since 2011, her practice is centered on working with BIPOC and queer, trans/gender expansive folx; she is sex and kink positive.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I support the exploration of one's thoughts and behaviors then working to align them with one's core values.

Racial trauma treatment

An acknowledgement of how systems of oppression intersect with one's well-being and how to cope.

Gender-affirming therapy

All humans deserve to live fully as themselves, I honor one's identity, support and encourage bodily autonomy, and respect how this plays out in a person's life.

Relational

I view my style as community healing, we are two humans coming together with shared communities (queer/2SLGBTQIA+, gender expansive, and people of color)

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy helps to bridge our thoughts, emotions, and body awareness.
