Hello! My name is Laura Lininger, LCSW. I attended Indiana University and got my BA in Psychology and then moved on to Tulane University in NOLA for my Masters in Social Work. I have worked for many years doing child and adolescent therapy and then later added working with adults to the services I provide. I believe my child and adolescent therapy background has been a great foundation for working with adults who are dealing with childhood trauma or family of origin issues. As for treatment approaches, I use Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and EMDR. I also include a lot of mindfulness practice in my work with clients. I am proud to provide a safe environment for all races, genders, religions, and clients from the LGBTQ community.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

During our first session, we will discuss the issues concerning you and what goals you have for therapy. During the first and sometimes in to the second session, I also get a thorough personal history such as family history, history of life experiences, and relationship history.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I have 34 years of experience - the first 10 of those I worked with children, adolescents and families in a community mental health center setting. This background has been very helpful to me as I work with clients who have experienced childhood trauma or who are from high stress families.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Do you feel like past issues come up in your life repeatedly? Do you struggle with negative thoughts and feelings about yourself and your mental health? Are you ready to take steps towards a life that is more meaningful and satisfying? I would be honored to work with you on identifying what is holding you back and finding your path forward.

My treatment methods

EMDR

I have been an EMDR provider for 5 years. I find EMDR to be very effective in treating not only PTSD and CPTSD, but also depression, other anxiety disorders, and issues around self-image and self-esteem.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I also often use Acceptance Commitment Therapy. ACT helps clients accept their emotions and reduce the struggle with them, freeing up energy to engage in meaningful and valued activities.
