New to Grow
I describe myself as radically genuine, compassionate, humorous, and authentic. I strive to create a positive and safe therapeutic environment free of judgment and focused on your goals. You might like working with me if you appreciate a little humor sprinkled into your sessions as we tackle the problems that bring you to therapy. I bring my authentic self to the therapeutic relationship and want to create a space where you can too. Whether you’re looking to build skills or explore the deep-rooted “why” behind how you think and feel, I truly want to be a resource on your journey to an improved quality of life. When I'm not working, I enjoy running ultramarathons, hiking, traveling, spending time with friends and family, and being the ultimate Buffalo Bills fan.
Our first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and develop a plan of action. Most importantly, the first session is your chance to decide if I'm a good fit for you. I believe that one of the most important factors for therapeutic success is the therapist/client match. If my style and personality don't feel like a good fit for you, I want to help you to find someone who is.
I am intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and have been using this modality in practice for approximately 12 years. I also utilize other evidence-based interventions including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and other trauma-informed modalities. The interventions I use are specifically tailored for the individual, and my knowledge of various evidence-based treatments allows me to work with a variety of people and presenting problems.
I love to work with people who are in high-pressure careers and have particularly enjoyed working with the medical resident population. Some of the most successful people struggle with things like self-confidence, "imposter syndrome," anxiety about performance, and negative perceptions of self. I help people with depression, anxiety, PTSD/adjustment issues, and stress management. I also have extensive experience working with LGBTQ+ individuals and the provision of affirming care.
I am intensively trained in DBT and have been practicing with this method for approximately 12 years. I primarily focus on skills development and generalization, but will use other treatment components (e.g., Diary Cards, Behavior Chaining) as needed.
I weave elements of this modality into treatment when cognitive reframing/restructuring is needed.
I've been providing gender-affirming therapy to gender diverse individuals for approximately 12 years. I have written support letters for HRT and gender-confirmation surgery.
I use elements of psychodynamic theory to conceptualize cases and to help clients understand how past relationships have informed present-day functioning.
I use these strategies as needed when there is an identified problem where a solution is required.
