My name is Carolyn Cooper and I have been in the Behavioral Health field for over 20 years. I enjoy hiking, camping and walks in the woods. I find the outdoors to be therapeutic and peaceful. I live in a small town in Pennsylvania and have been married for 17 years. I currently work full time as an Outpatient Supervisor. My goal is to one day work exclusively in private practice.
In the first session, I begin to get to know the client, discuss what they want to achieve or address, goals are identified as well as concerns/issues.
I feel that I am relatable to most people. I have a more casual approach. I think that for anyone to seek treatment takes courage and trust and the therapist they work with needs to understand that and make the setting/experience a comfortable one as much as possible.
I have experience working with a variety of age ranges and diagnoses. I feel I am best suited to work with individuals with depression, grief and loss, those struggling with decision making and self- esteem. I use humor in my sessions and work to help clients build on their strengths.
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT is effective in treating several diagnoses. It teaches people to challenge the way they think which directly influences the decisions they make. I always try to incorporate CBT with my clients. I also like to incorporate some type of homework so that clients can practice what we discuss in their natural environment.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Mindfulness is a good way to bring clients into the present moment and be active in their choices, decisions and habits that can influence emotions.
