New to Grow
My name is Valerie Ziel, and I am a licensed clinical social worker. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from John Jay College of Criminal Law, where I majored in Forensic Psychology. Furthering my commitment to social work, I obtained a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the NYU Silver School of Social Work. In addition to my clinical practice, I am an active artist. My artistic journey has included studies at The Natural Academy of Design and The New York School of the Arts. I am also a life member of The Art Students League of New York, reflecting my long-standing dedication to the creative arts.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
The primary goal of the initial therapy session is to cultivate a strong sense of rapport and trust with the client. During the session, emphasis is placed on exploring the client's underlying reasons for seeking therapy. By active listening, the focus will be on the client's "why," so that the conversation remains centered on the client's needs and personal motivations. Key background details such as the client’s history, relationships, and goals are gently explored through thoughtful questioning. This approach allows me to gain valuable insights without overwhelming the client.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
My approach to psychotherapy is eclectic, utilizing a holistic therapeutic modality that integrates elements from various psychological frameworks. By blending various therapeutic techniques, I can tailor treatment plans to meet the unique needs of each client. This flexible approach ensures that interventions are tailored to address individual concerns, preferences, and specific circumstances. As a psychotherapist, my primary goal is to create a non-judgmental environment characterized by acceptance, empathic understanding, and unconditional positive regard. Within this supportive setting, clients are encouraged to openly express and explore their thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. My goal is to foster personal growth and empower clients to make meaningful adjustments that promote emotional well-being and resilience.
