My name is Joseph Grote and I have been a counselor in the school setting with students ages 5-18 years of age. I have been a counselor at the elementary setting for 10 years and as a High School Counselor for 4 years. I have also worked as a college and career counselor for 5 years. I have counseled people with anxiety problems, peer relationships, parenting issues, and working with students with disabilities. I also am very knowledgeable in career counseling, degree planning, and transitioning from high school to college and college to careers.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session we will do a detailed intake appointment where I will learn more about my clients, the problem they are seeking support with, and helping to set counseling goals on what we want to work on in our counseling session. In our next session we will review together our treatment plan and goals and work towards our goals in our sessions.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Being understanding of clients and where they are at in the current moment. Listening to the problems and helping try to understand the situation better. Not being judgmental regarding their concerns and feelings. Having a positive outlook and working as team to help move forward.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I am most skilled at working with clients who need help with career planning, need support navigating peer relationships, helping support parents on working with conflicts with their children. I also have lots of experience working with clients with disabilities and with the special education system. I can also help clients with general anxiety, test anxiety, and life transitions.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

The focus of treatment is on the present and how to help clients move forward now. We will look at how clients see their present situation and see if clients may perceive problems in an negative or irrational way. Working together we will help see situations in a more positive manner and brainstorm solutions on how to move forward with their problems.
