Hi. I'm Marquita and I've been a social worker for 15 years and counting. I strive to help my clients navigate this challenging journey we know as life. Sometimes on this journey, we experience things such as anxiety, depression, life changes, set backs, and other bumps in the road, but what I've learned is that we can almost always navigate through or around them and keep on going. I use some conventional as well as unconventional techniques to work with my clients. I like to start where you are and not where I think you should be. We will use a mixture of cognitive behavioral, behavioral, mindfulness, and many other techniques to help us solve problems that we identify. I say "we", because we will do this together, but I allow you to drive. That just means I trust that you know yourself better than I do, but I will strive to help you find out just how strong you are and empower you to thrive in your life. We can do this together!
During our first session together, we will go over all there is to get to know you and why you decided to embark on your therapeutic journey. I will ask you questions and you will have the opportunity to get to know me and ask me questions about my background and how we will work together to address your needs.
I use a lot of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavioral Tools, Educational tools, mindfulness tools/ deep breathing tools, person-centered approach and solution-focused approach. I use many others on top of these, but these are my bases.
My strengths are that when my client tells me something about themselves, I believe them and I work with them from the point that they feel it works best for them. I empower them. I may be your therapist, but I believe you know yourself better than anyone else, and pride myself in providing you with the safe space to help you discover that being and pull that person out of their shell so they can THRIVE!
The clients I serve deal with a variety of different issues ranging from depression, anxiety, neurodivergence, and navigating in a world that may challenge their very identity. Many of my clients may experience oppression in a world that places them at a disadvantage, rather that's from a racial stand point, being Queer in a heteronormative world, or navigating neurodivergence in a world developed for the neurotypical individual experience. My clients come from very diverse backgrounds. I work with all races, sexual orientations and gender identities, and etc. however, the clients I mentioned before tend to make their way to me because of my professional and personal experience in being positioned to serve the population that I serve.
