(she/her)
Welcome to my page! My name is Kate Hunt and I'm a licensed Clinical Social Worker in Maryland with ten years of experience in working with adults and children. I completed my undergraduate degree in Social Work from McDaniel, my master's in social work from UMB, and am a board approved supervisor with experience in leadership positions including field intern supervising with UMB. My experience includes mood disorders, perinatal mood disorders, relationship issues, substance abuse, anxiety and adjustment concerns. I've worked in a variety of settings including hospitals, substance use programs, and therapy clinics. I believe a client centered approach allows a genuine experience for both client and clinician. My goal is to help my clients reach a point of internal growth through self-discovery and encouragement. My therapy orientation is both psychodynamic and CBT based. Together, we can work to confront defense mechanisms and cognitive distortions that are contributing to your present concerns. Lastly, in my personal life, I'm a former athlete (but trying to be current!), dog-lover, avid reader, and parent.
Our first session will include a biopsychosocial assessment where we will explore past and current stressors, your relationships, supports, childhood experiences, and your goals for therapy. We will also review informed consent and practice policies.
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all approach. I adapt my methods to fit each client’s unique needs and ensure they feel seen and supported. I prioritize clear, open communication to create a supportive, non-judgmental environment. I practice active listening and will give you opportunities to reflect on your experiences with you as an empathetic partner. If we’re working through something challenging, you can expect me to be calm and patient. But above all, I'm also human and believe there is a place for humor & tough love.
Dealing with a life transition? End of a relationship? Becoming a first-time parent? Or shifts in your marriage? We all go through periods of changes and shift in our lives that can create significant barriers to everyday happiness and ultimately provoke depressive and anxious symptoms. I strive to create a safe and welcoming environment that allows clients to explore obstacles with concerns related to anxiety, depression, and/or self-care. Together, we can work through past experiences that may be contributing to your current stressors. If this is what you're seeking, I'm here to help!

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
In CBT work, we will work together to identify and challenge any negative thinking patterns, otherwise known as cognitive distortions, and behavior which may be causing you difficulties. In turn this can change the way you feel about situations and enable you to change your behavior in future. We will explore what is going on in your life right now but may also look at your past and think about how your past experiences impact the way you see the world.
Psychodynamic
In psychodynamic therapy, we will work together to explore your childhood and past experiences that may be contributing to current, unresolved, conflicts. In turn, we can strengthen self- awareness, learn your defense mechanisms, understand past influences and unconscious thoughts, and resolve internal conflicts.

Kate was warm and her guiding questions kept conversation moving to paint a big picture. She held space for all my feelings in a way that made sharing comfortable.

Kate has been great. She is a great listener and tries to help us see every perspective. We will definitely continue to work with her in the future.
