Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Your first session is the start of something important—a dedicated space that’s entirely yours. From the moment we begin, you can expect a warm, grounded, and judgment-free environment. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you in, what feels heavy or uncertain, and what you hope might feel different in your life. You don’t need to have the “right words” or a perfectly organized story. We’ll take it one step at a time.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

What stands out about my therapeutic approach is the balance I bring between depth and practicality. With doctoral-level training and clinical experience, I integrate evidence-based modalities with thoughtful insight—helping clients not only understand why patterns exist, but also learn how to change them. My work is collaborative, structured when helpful, and always tailored to the individual. I draw from many different approaches such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy and trauma-informed care, while staying attuned to each client’s unique strengths, culture, and goals. Clients often appreciate that our sessions feel both supportive and purposeful—compassionate, yet focused on real movement.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am best positioned to serve those who are thoughtful, motivated, and ready to engage in meaningful self-exploration—even if they’re unsure where to begin. Many of my clients are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, burnout, or major life transitions. They may feel stuck in repeating patterns, overwhelmed by expectations, or disconnected from themselves and others. Inwork especially well with individuals who want more than quick symptom relief—they want insight, practical tools, and lasting change. Whether you’re highly self-aware or just beginning to reflect more deeply on your experiences, I provide both the structure and support to help you move forward with clarity and confidence. If you’re looking for therapy that is compassionate yet focused, reflective yet goal-oriented, and grounded in evidence-based practice, we may be a strong fit.

My treatment methods

Feminist

In our work together, I view you as the expert on your own life. Therapy is collaborative, not hierarchical. We explore how messages you’ve internalized may be impacting your self-worth, boundaries, and choices, while also identifying your strengths and resilience. The goal is not simply symptom reduction, but increased agency—helping you reclaim your voice, clarify your values, and make decisions that align with who you truly are. A feminist approach in therapy centers empowerment, self-trust, and intentional change, creating space for you to define success and well-being on your own terms.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I integrate cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), an evidence-based approach that helps clients understand the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Many emotional struggles are influenced not only by what happens to us, but by how we interpret and respond to those experiences. CBT works by identifying unhelpful thought patterns, challenging distortions, and developing more balanced ways of thinking that support emotional well-being and healthier choices.

Couples Counseling

I bring specialized training and clinical experience in working with couples who feel stuck in cycles of conflict, distance, or miscommunication. My approach to couples counseling is structured, balanced, and emotionally attuned—I focus on helping both partners feel heard while identifying the patterns that keep them disconnected. Whether you are rebuilding trust, navigating a life transition, or simply wanting to strengthen your relationship, I create a focused and supportive space where meaningful change can occur.

Trauma Informed Care

My work is grounded in trauma-informed care, which means I approach every client with an understanding of how past experiences—whether acute trauma or chronic stress—can shape current thoughts, emotions, relationships, and nervous system responses. Safety, trust, collaboration, and choice are central to my practice. I move at a pace that feels regulated and respectful, ensuring you feel supported rather than overwhelmed. I am also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), an evidence-based treatment designed to help the brain reprocess distressing memories so they feel less intrusive and emotionally charged. EMDR can be particularly effective for trauma, anxiety, attachment wounds, and negative core beliefs that feel “stuck.” By integrating trauma-informed principles with EMDR and other evidence-based approaches, I help clients reduce reactivity, strengthen emotional regulation, and build a greater sense of stability and self-trust. The goal is not just to revisit the past—but to help you feel more grounded, empowered, and free in the present.

Psychoeducation

Psychoeducation is an integral part of my therapeutic approach. I believe that understanding why you feel, think, or respond the way you do can be deeply empowering. When clients learn how the nervous system responds to stress, how attachment patterns develop, or how thoughts influence emotions, therapy becomes less mysterious—and change feels more attainable. I regularly integrate clear, relevant education about topics such as trauma responses, anxiety cycles, relationship dynamics, boundaries, emotional regulation, and cognitive patterns. This isn’t about lecturing—it’s about giving you practical insight that helps you make sense of your experiences and apply what you learn outside of session. Clients often find that psychoeducation reduces shame, increases self-compassion, and provides a roadmap for growth. When you understand the mechanisms behind your struggles, you’re better equipped to shift them with intention and confidence.

When we first started seeing Melina, we were struggling. Communication felt impossible, and we weren’t sure if we could continue together. Melina gave us structured space to work through our issues. She asked the right questions, kept us accountable, and helped us find tools we can use in conflict resolution. Now, we feel more connected and more like a team. Our relationship is stronger—and I’m genuinely grateful for Melina’s guidance and support through this process.
