I have held a Master of Arts degree in Psychology in Counseling from Fayetteville State University since June 2009. I was licensed in the state of North Carolina before moving to Texas in 2017. I currently have over 15 years of experience as a Licensed Professional Counselor and am licensed in the state of Texas. My professional background includes working in various mental health settings such as psychiatric hospitals, community-based services, crisis support, diagnostic assessments, and private practice. I have extensive experience working with diverse populations, including children and adults facing behavioral issues, mental illness, traumatic events like abuse, as well as youth at risk of out-of-home placement. Additionally, I have experience with Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), facilitating support for critical incidents, and working with commercial insurance.
During our initial session, we will discuss the events that led you to counseling or feeling "I may need to talk to someone". We'll take some time to explore some of your challenges or barriers in your life and develop some goals to start you on your journey to healing.
My approach to therapy is thoughtful and client-centered, focusing on creating a comfortable and non-judgmental environment for my clients. I prioritize their expertise in their own lives and aim to guide them towards their self-identified goals. My incorporation of humor, music, and relaxation techniques reflects a holistic approach to therapy, considering both emotional and physiological aspects of healing. This approach fosters a strong therapeutic alliance and empowers clients to explore their experiences openly and authentically.
I have found over the years that a client who is open to change, actively engages in therapy sessions, has realistic expectations about the therapeutic process, values collaboration with the therapist, is committed to personal growth, attends sessions regularly, and respects the confidentiality of the therapeutic relationship. These qualities contribute to a productive and effective therapeutic experience.
