Hello! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor from Northeast Texas. After a long career as a teacher and public school counselor, I made the decision to start working as an LPC and I have never regretted making the change. I truly love what I do. I am excited to meet you and begin our work together. Congratulations on making the decision to take this step towards a better future.
At our initial session, we will discuss relevant background information and problems that are currently bothering you. I encourage you to be open and honest as we discuss coping skills, problem solving and the specialized treatment options that will work best for you.
While working in public education for twenty-six years, as both a teacher and a counselor, I was blessed with the opportunity to work with many wonderful people including students, parents, and my fellow faculty members. Because of the value of the relationships that I established while working in education, I understand the importance of the connections I form with my clients now. I know that trust and respect are essential parts of working together to address issues and begin your healing journey.
I do not believe that any of my clients should fall under a "one therapy fits all" umbrella. As one of my clients, you are unique and you bring your own story to the table. Each of you deserves goals and a plan that is specific for your special circumstances. This requires me to be flexible and often times pull therapy techniques from different areas. Two therapies that I often use are CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy).
I am currently in EMDR training and qualified to administer eye movement desensitization reprocessing therapy. I encourage you to visit with me about it and we can decide together if EMDR will be a good fit to help you move forward from PTSD, trauma, depression, anger, anxiety, as well as other mental health issues that are making you feel stuck in your current circumstances.
I am a Christian and I am a therapist. My faith is important to me, and I use it as part of my therapy when I feel called to do so.
Whenever possible and appropriate, I strive to help educate my clients on their symptoms, their diagnosis and their treatment options. I find the majority of my clients are excited about opportunities to not only learn about their mental health but also how to manage it.
