I am Kyle McGee DSW, LCSW and I have been providing services for nine years. What inspires me is clients who are motivated and want to build a good working partnership so that they can achieve their highest desires. I am best versed in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (and for trauma), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Solutions Focused Therapy, and Positive Psychology. I have experienced issues and had my own therapy and truly value what it's like sitting on the other side of therapy. I want to make sure you feel as comfortable as possible so establishing our relationship is the very first step. I hope to be a guiding partner in your journey to discovering your very best self!
The first session will be all about learning about you! I want to know who you are, what brought you here, what kind of therapist you enjoy working with, and what has worked in the past for you. We should know our roles and set a schedule as well, but otherwise I want to make things less formal and more about building trust!
I am very eclectic and have a keen sense of when to ask for feedback or shift. I don't believe that having ego and being expert-like gets you anywhere with clients. I realize that every client with the same issue on paper is different and their issue presents uniquely to them; thus, no client is exactly the same. I want to make sure you feel like you are seen and understood as a unique and worthy individual and will be treated exactly as such.
I am best positioned to serve clients who experience depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, and self esteem issues. I appreciate working with clients who want to "add" to their life rather than remove. I don't believe that deleting parts of yourself is a viable or healthy option; rather, its about bringing out the best of you and adding to what already makes you so unique and special.
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy while incorporating mindfulness. CBT is often cited as the most effective treatment for depression and anxiety disorders, so I go with what's shown to be most effective.
I use Acceptance and Commitment therapy because I it truly resonates with me in terms of its judgement free approach and belief in values driven action. It is a great compliment for those clients who want something different than CBT.
I use trauma focused CBT for clients who are ready to talk about their trauma. TF-CBT is best for clients who have some level of control over physical symptoms or are ready to address their trauma through a narrative.
Positive psychology is one of my favorite approaches. I use it for clients who want to see the best in themselves and realize their fullest potential but don't know how to get there. Positive psychology compliments the other approaches because instead of focusing on removing issues it helps to add to one's life to create meaning and purpose. It's great for folks who want to identify and/or bolster their strengths to create a meaningful life.
I use motivational interviewing for clients who are reluctant and hesistant and who lack drive and have a hard time "getting started". It's a great conversational approach for folks who need to move the needle and heighten their awareness that their are problems that need to be worked on.
