My primary areas of interest include anxiety, Depression, ADHD and substance abuse with a focus in teenagers and young adults. I use a mindfulness-based holistic approach to assist in goal achievement. I believe in the impact that a healthy lifestyle has in every area of life. I promote empowerment, dignity, and respect for all clients, regardless of age, race, gender, background or sexual orientation. For the past 15 years, I have specialized in providing treatment for teenagers and young adults. I really enjoy being part of positive change related to self esteem and empowerment. With our current climate, Depression and Anxiety rates are skyrocketing amongst our younger population. Education, treatment, support and advocacy are critical.
Most new clients feel a little anxious about the first session. I recognize that, so I keep the intake process more like a conversation rather than an interview or exam. The therapeutic relationship is one of the key components to recovery, if I am not the right fit, I will help find someone who is.
I use a holistic approach. I encourage nutrition and movement as a natural way to manage symptoms. I practice a Cognitive Behavioral approach to acknowledge and change negative thought patterns. I do not believe in cookie-cutter coping skills so we will explore several strategies that work for you.
My strengths include understanding several approaches to helping individuals manage symptoms and improve their lifestyles. My experience from both community mental health and private practice has given me a broad knowledge of community support and holistic methods that I use within my practice.
