I work mostly with anxiety and trauma reactions, relationships of all kinds, aging and end of life issues, post menopausal issues. grief and loss. I have been a professional Clinical Psychologist for over 20 years. I have worked in private practice, for state and federal government agencies, and as a medical consultant. I work best with those who want to create change and growth, who have anxiety, childhood difficulties, depression, coping and relationship difficulties as well as aging and functional limitations.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
The first session is designed to hear from you and learn about what you need and want, to understand what you have already tried to do to manage your difficulties, and to get some idea of how you approach needs. I will discuss how I work to understand prior influences quicky so that we may begin the work of getting you where you want to go and gaining relief as soon as possible. Feel free to ask questions about what to expect.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
What stands out about my approach is my perspective of clients as holding their own unique set of skills and abilities that we can tap to help you feel better and get what you want. I am open to trying many ideas until we find the ones you feel will work for you. I understand a broad range of human conditions and life stages and can help you see yourself as more capable and confident than you enjoyed prior. My superpower is autheniticity and compassion for meeting you where you are and working with you to find a new path for growth.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
If you have tried many things already....don't give up. It seems to take more trying and for longer periods of time to get what we need or want. I will work endlessly to 'find another way' to meet your needs if what we try doesn't work. I am not wedded to a technique or strategy but enjoy curating a treatment that feels comfortable and in agreement with your goals and sensibilities. It is easy to define a goal and a bit harder to ensure we agree on how to reach it. By the end, I want you to feel glad to made another try and confident that you accomplished something important for yourself.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I use acceptance to increase your powers of insight and awareness and foster a path to minimizing what is getting in your way. I help you focus on wants and desires to galvanize progress towards improved satisfaction and tolerance with yourself and others. I want to realize your ppwer and ability for feeling better.
Feminist
I have an overall feminist informed goal of helping all to experience equal opportunities for growth and success.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use cognitive functions and behavior change to help clients move from a place of understanding and clarity towards a higher level of functioning. Based on your goals we can use CBT to help get you on the path you want.
