LPC, 5 years of experience
Hello there! My name is Latoya. Do you ever feel stuck? Have you ever felt bruised, broken, and felt like giving up? These feelings often tie back to some anxiety, depression and low self-esteem. If this is you then I am the right person to come and see. I am open to helping anyone, but see a lot of patients that have issues with the aforementioned three issues. I utilize a person- centered approach and use cognitive behavioral therapy, solution- focused therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy. I love watching client's achieve their goals for therapy, like helping people, and watching the relief it often brings them emotionally, mentally and physically- to be able to get some things off their chest that they may have been carrying for a number of years. I believe in caring, empathetic, and having being nonjudgmental of the client. I hope that knowing this comforts you and puts your mind at ease in starting your therapeutic journey.
First session is myself getting to know client's likes/dislikes, interests and hobbies, reasons for therapy, talk about expectations of the therapeutic relationships, and talking about next follow up appointment. Intake form will also be done if not completed by client prior to session, depression/anxiety screen and safety plan may be done if deemed necessary during session.
I come with a person-centered approach but I take that and then also utilize many techniques from other theories, but cognitive-behavioral approach is one I use often.
I feel that being empathetic, actively listening anf providing positive regard are my biggest strengths, I also would say that I can make the person think or see things from a different light in some cases.
Mindset must be open to learning and putting forth the effort to change and implement coping strategies and other strategies discussed in session to help client. Also coming in with mindset that I am not able to "fix" them but to help give strategies and talk things through to help client improve their functioning and viewpoints on life.
