As I see it, my job is to walk with you on your journey to overcome any barriers to help you achieve your best self, however you define that. Welcome, I am Alison Tempero, LCSW (KY) and LCSW, LCAC (IN) of Bardo Counseling LLP. I graduated from the University of Louisville with my Bachelors in Psychology in 2009 and my Masters' of Social Work in 2014. I have been working in social services for over 18 years and look forward to putting those years of experience into practice for you.
I try to meet my clients where he/she/they/ze are at. We will work at your pace, so your first session may look different than someone else’s. Generally we will start by me getting to know you, I’ll get information from you about your life, your history, your relationships, your treatment history, what has worked and what hasn’t. We will develop a plan for care that works for you, this is a draft document that is as dynamic as you are. So as situations and circumstances change so can the plans and areas of immediate focus.
I hope to make what can be an intimidating and uncomfortable process as comfortable as I possibly can. It takes courage to challenge yourself and I honor your commitment to this process. I am dedicated to be with you, as you make your way on the journey of self-discovery and development.
I have been studying trauma for over 17 years and have a very clear understanding of how trauma can impact our individual stories, our kinship groups, our cultural groups and our workplace environments. I specialize in working through trauma focused modalities but provide a trauma informed approach in all aspects of care.
We are whole people, not parts, and it's important that we are provided with care approach which includes for person in environment in addition to the individual. I have worked hard to be parts of Primary, Psychiatric, Integrative partnerships and work from an approach in which all aspects of care should be considered in care plans. I have been a Yoga practitioner for 26 years personally and encourage a holistic approach in care.
I started studying Strengths Based and Solution Focused Brief Therapy in 2010 and later taught these advanced clinical techniques at the University of Kansas in 2016.
There are many ways to process out trauma work, personally, I find that CPT is the most effective in treating complex co-occurring trauma, which is what I see in many of my clients.
Compassion Focused Mindfulness Based Therapies work toward creating a kinder relationship with ourselves. Working on developing a loving kind relationship with ourselves can do so much on our journey of healing.
