Hi there! My name is Kaila Gray and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in California since 2022 and have been working in the mental health field since 2014. I am excited that you have stopped by my profile & are looking into therapy! Please read some more about me below to see if I could be a good match for you. I have been working in the mental health field for some time now and I have a wide variety of experiences. I have my bachelors degree in psychology and a masters degree in counseling and guidance. I have spent the first part of my career working with students in the school setting as a school counselor. Once I became fully licensed I started as a school therapist for a local school district and also started providing tele-therapy. I believe that therapy is not a one size fits all. I am flexible and willing to build sessions based around what YOU need. I will provide you a space to learn and grow with no judgement and all the compassion I have to offer. I believe that we can overcome our struggles & I want to help you do that!

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In the first session we will talk about a lot of things. I will tell you about my experiences as a school counselor and therapist, how sessions generally go, expectations and give you plenty of time to ask questions and tell me how I can help you. If there is a child client I will invite parents to stay for the beginning part of sessions so they have information about me and hopefully feel more comfortable about the therapy process and invite them back later (if the child is ok with that) to provide me more information on how I can help. At the end of the fist session we will talk about goals and how we will move forward with therapy. I pride myself in being flexible and letting the client guide the process!

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I love helping clients develop their coping skills, motivation & strengths over the course of our sessions. I will meet each client where they are at while providing empathy & support! I will be your biggest cheerleader through this process. Something that I think is really special about me is that I believe therapy is a collaborative process. I will often check in with you at the end of sessions to see how it is going for you. I will ask what you are liking and not liking. I ask this because I want you to get the best care from me and I believe it is so important to have that open communication so I know how to be better for YOU

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

At this time I am accepting clients in 1st-12th grade and young adulthood. A majority of my experience is in the K-12 setting and helping teens transition into adulthood and that this is where I feel like I can have the biggest positive impact at this point in my career. I know therapy can be a scary thing but I hope my clients are wanting to meet (being a little scared is normal at first), able to communicate via Telehealth and have a open mindset for therapy.

My treatment methods

Narrative

Using Narrative Therapy, I believe that the problems is the problem and the person is not the problem. I like to explain it as if the problem is a little chirping bird on your shoulder and we have to figure out how to flick it off your shoulder to leave you alone.

Motivational Interviewing

Using motivational interviewing is a powerful method to utilize in sessions because it’s collaborative and respectful. It’s a way to help the client explore their own feelings, motivations, and goals instead of just being told what to do or how to think. Motivational interviewing helps illicit client empowerment and intrinsic motivation.

Strength-Based

I love utilizing strength based methods because it focuses on what the client can do rather than their struggles or hardships. It can help build confidence and self-esteem, promote hope, increased motivation, and encourages resilience!

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

This is a treatment method that I love to use because it is exactly what it says it is we focus on a solution and treatment is brief. Sometimes the struggles that we have don’t need prolonged therapy sessions, we need a few sessions to get things squared away then we can be moving forward with life. This is a great approach for somebody that’s busy, on the go. It is quick, impractical, great for using with younger people, uses our strengths/motivations, and its future focused!
