Welcome! Congratulations on taking an important step towards prioritizing your well-being. Navigating the mental health system can be a confusing and difficult process, but you are here and that is already progress. I would like to make that process less daunting and assist you in reaching your desired quality of life. I strive to provide a safe and supportive space for us to process painful past experiences as well as current difficulties. I will provide you with and help you practice a variety of techniques that will empower you to push past your discomfort (and/or trauma) to live the fulfilling lifestyle you are searching for. While addressing your symptoms, we will also explore and expand your personal strengths in order to improve your self-esteem and boost your confidence. Creating a strong foundation of trust in yourself to handle difficult situations is one of the most powerful tools to manage and prevent depression and anxiety-related symptoms. Therapy does not have to be boring or stressful. Together we can explore different creative approaches such as art, mindfulness, games, hands-on activities/worksheets, videos, and books to enhance your experience in ways that feel most meaningful and helpful to you.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session, we will go over the information provided in the intake form as well as scores from anxiety and depression screeners. I will make sure to cover the main concerns that lead you to seeking services and help you identify specific therapy goals to address them. I will provide information about any questions you may have related to treatment and we will collaborate to complete a treatment plan before the end of session.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

Based on feedback from former clients, their families, and colleagues, my biggest strengths are: being a compassionate active listener, maintaining a calm/supportive demeanor, resourceful, and providing client-centered services. I have also been told that I can assess my client's energy/needs effectively. This allows me to make the session interactive and high energy or provide a very calm and supportive space, depending on what you need at the moment. Being Latina and bilingual (Spanish & English) allows me to reach and connect with the Latine community, which I believe to be underserved in regard to access to mental health services. Es un placer para mi el poder proveer servicios de terapia en Español-mi lengua nativa, a mi comunidad hispanohablante.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as my main treatment approach because it sets the tone for a hands-on and short-term treatment. This allows you to maximize your benefits from therapy without feeling "stuck having to do therapy forever." I believe the hands-on approach is a very effective way to apply what you are learning, identify what is working, and adjust as you go. I also think that learning how your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are influencing each other (CBT triangle) is fundamental to pinpointing where change needs to happen and how to generate it.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I use this method to assist you in recognizing, processing, and managing intense emotions constructively. This approach emphasizes achieving a balance between accepting and changing challenging situations. We will practice this by increasing your tolerance using mindfulness and emotion regulation techniques. It also involves assessing relationships, with a focus on enhancing positive connections and establishing or maintaining necessary boundaries.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP)

ERP involves gradual exposure to your major fears in order to decrease avoidance and emotionally charged responses to a variety of triggers. We will start by discussing fears, then progress to visual exposure and confronting the feared elements. I will provide a safe space during our virtual sessions for planning and executing these exposure exercises (some will be done independently outside of sessions, depending on the specific exposure). This treatment is also used for reducing compulsions and obsessions related to OCD. Exposures are used to gradually prevent you from engaging in these behaviors until the triggers are no longer anxiety-provoking.
