New to Grow
I’m Dr. Neil Darren Schwartz, a licensed psychologist specializing in trauma recovery and evidence-based therapy. I believe healing happens in the context of a safe and collaborative relationship, so I work closely with clients to understand their story and goals. In therapy, I draw from Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), DBT skills, and ACT to enable people process trauma, manage distress, and build resilience. I earned my doctorate in clinical psychology from Nova Southeastern University, where my research explored health disparities among sexual minority men with histories of prolonged abuse. I examined the relationship between HIV and PTSD, looking at how these experiences impact treatment and healing. Over the years, I’ve supported clients from many different backgrounds, including LGBTQ+ adults, in working through trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges. My priority is to create a compassionate, supportive space where clients feel safe, understood, and empowered to grow.
In our first session, I’ll take time to get to know you and your goals, while also gathering information about your history and current concerns. We’ll discuss what’s been most difficult, what you hope to change, and how I can best support you. I’ll also explain my therapeutic approach and answer any questions so you feel comfortable with the process. By the end of our meeting, you’ll have a clear idea of what working together will look like and the next steps in your healing journey.
My greatest strengths lie in providing trauma-focused, evidence-based care that helps clients move beyond painful experiences. I specialize in Cognitive Processing Therapy and other CBT approaches that address the thoughts and beliefs keeping people stuck in cycles of distress. At the same time, I bring warmth and flexibility, making space for each client’s unique story and pace. I have particular experience supporting LGBTQ+ men and adults navigating trauma, anxiety, and relationship concerns. My goal is to create a safe, affirming space where clients feel both supported and empowered to grow.
I work best with adults who want to heal from trauma, manage anxiety or depression, or better understand their cognitive and emotional functioning. My clients are often seeking relief from painful memories, clearer insight into their thinking and behavior, or answers to long-standing questions about attention, memory, or learning. Many are motivated to move beyond surviving into thriving, and I support them with compassion, structure, and evidence-based tools.
I use Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to help clients work through the impact of trauma. In sessions, we explore stuck thoughts and beliefs that keep painful memories alive, and I guide clients in developing healthier perspectives. This structured, evidence-based approach fits into my practice by providing a clear path to healing while still allowing for compassion, flexibility, and individualized care.
I integrate psychodynamic therapy to help clients understand how past experiences shape current thoughts, emotions, and relationships. Together, we explore patterns that may operate outside of awareness and uncover deeper insight. This approach allows clients to make meaningful changes, gain self-understanding, and build healthier ways of relating.
I use ERP to help clients gradually face situations or thoughts that trigger anxiety while resisting the urge to engage in unhelpful coping behaviors. This structured approach is highly effective for OCD and related conditions. By practicing in a supportive space, clients build confidence, reduce avoidance, and regain a sense of control in daily life.
