LMFT, 20 years of experience
Hello! I'm Michael and if you are reading this, you are likely considering therapy as an avenue to make a change in your life. This is the first step in building the life you deserve. Are you overwhelmed by your emotions? Stuck in your past? Worried about the future? Do you just feel...blah...like you can't quite put your finger on what's wrong? You are in the right place! These are questions I can help you answer. I help men and women improve emotional skills, reduce symptoms, and develop coping skills to deal with life's challenges. Together, we will create a plan that works for you. This is your life and only you know the answer. You just need a little help uncovering it. Change is scary and uncomfortable, but if you can choose to show up anyway, amazing things can happen. I realize coming to therapy can be tough and so I like to make your experience with me as safe and comfortable as possible. I hope to hear from you soon.
The first session is a little different than the follow up sessions. The first session starts with introductions and then I review the administrative side of things (confidentiality, where you are doing therapy from, financial responsibilities). Then I will tell you a bit more about myself and my approach. After that, I turn it over to you and ask you what brings you into therapy and what you are hoping to get out of our sessions. I will review your intake form with you and clarify any questions that I have about your information.
There is no one way to do therapy with every client. Each person is different and I will treat you as a unique individual with their unique struggles. I utilize a solution-focused, strength-based approach to encourage my clients and come up with a way to manage their struggles. I look for patterns in your life so we can develop a plan for both the presenting issue as well as other challenges you may encounter.
I have an interactive and conversational approach to therapy. Let's talk and see what's going on, then we can come up with a plan to get you to where you want to be. I also like to incorporate humor into our sessions. Therapy doesn't always have to be deep and serious, sometimes it can be light and contain laughter. My experience includes working with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, divorce-related challenges, and grief. I am NOT working with anyone under the age of 18 at this time.
My ideal client may have anxiety, depression, or be struggling with self esteem issues. Those are difficult issues to live with, but not impossible to work on. I understand that working through these feelings is difficult, but if you are willing to do the work, then we can be successful at moving you forward and into a better state of life.

He is certainly a lighthouse in the middle of a storm. There's recovery and rejuvenation in his practice. Anyone can listen and provide feedback from learned methods and theories; however he ensures they are personally crafted for your well being.

I was not sure about first meetings with anyone. I felt comfortable with Michael. I’m looking forward to learning new coping tools with him.

Excellent listener is an understatement. The "safe environment" to share sensitive information and self reflection has been healthy. I have a long way to go but for now Michael is a solid resource to reset and start a new journey of self discovery.
