LPC, 8 years of experience
Hello, my name is Peggy Bissing and I am licensed professional counselor in Texas, Missouri and Alaska. I am a licensed chemical dependency counselor in the state of Texas and Mental Behavioral Telehealth Counselor in Idaho. I have often told my client's that my soul's purpose on earth is to prevent suffering and to help people live happier lives. I am excited to assist you on your healing journey.
In our first session together, I review all intake paper and generally explain the types of therapeutic techniques. Since I use brain-based therapies it's important for client's to be informed and have ample opportunity to ask questions. Then, I review the client's presenting problem or the reason they are coming to therapy. I allow client's to talk freely about their concerns and expectations about therapy.
My greatest strength as a therapist is my broad area of experience. I worked as a school counselor, special education teacher, parole officer and probation counselor before starting my private practice. I have worked with homeless populations, visually impaired and children in residential treatment centers. I believe my scope of experience allows me relate to all of my clients life situations.
I enjoy helping clients with complex trauma, self esteem issues and those struggling to make good relationship choices.
I am a certified EMDR therapist. I use this technique to help clients process past trauma and reduce the emotional impact of difficult experiences. I also use specific EMDR protocols to support clients working through addictions, helping them build healthier coping strategies and promote lasting change.
I am certified in Brainspotting, a powerful brain-based therapy that helps clients process and release unresolved trauma, stress, or emotional blocks. This technique works by helping your brain locate and focus on the physical “spots” where difficult memories or emotions are stored, allowing your mind and body to process them safely. Brainspotting can reduce emotional intensity, increase self-awareness, and support deep, lasting healing.
This technique helps clients learn to stabilize their emotions and gain a greater sense of control. It also allows them to identify and understand different parts of their personality that may need healing and attention, supporting personal growth and emotional well-being.
I use Motivational Interviewing (MI) to support you in exploring your goals and finding your own motivation for change. Together, we’ll identify what’s most important to you and create a plan that feels achievable and meaningful. This approach is collaborative and non-judgmental, helping you build confidence and make lasting, positive changes in your life.
