I am a licensed Independent Social Work Therapist with thirty years of experience. I work with adults from age 18 throughout the life span who are dealing with a variety of life issues. I welcome you so we can work together to help you feel comfortable with sharing things that are very important to you as a unique individual. You can can feel stressed and unhappy even though everything is going well, and want to make sense of these feelings. You can be dealing with complicated life issues with an important relationship, uncomfortable change or the painful situation of losing some one or something special. I enjoy helping people be happy when they have reached personal growth and found positive ways to help themselves.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session, I will discuss the therapy process, and be more than happy to answer questions or address concerns. We will then complete the diagnostic assessment which will help me obtain a thorough history of information about your passed and present which identifies important areas in your life. We will also focus any areas from the past or present which are interfering with your feeling content or happy in your present life. We will then discuss the areas you want to have positive change with and develop treatment goals.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

In order to build positive therapeutic relationships, I am welcoming to all my new clients, and have worked with diverse backgrounds and personalities. In order to help you feel comfortable I know you deserve to be treated as a unique individual and I will make a point to learn the important things that can help therapy be successful.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I have a long history of experience with adults age 18 and over. This includes adults at various stages of life as young adults, middle age adults and older adults.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps us understand the relationship between our thoughts, emotions and behavior. We can all have unhealthy thoughts that distort reality and cause us more stress because of the extreme nature of them rather than seeing things in a more balanced manner. These thoughts can contribute to having negative emotions. The combination of negative thoughts and emotions can contribute to us handling a difficult situation in a more extreme way than needed which causes us further problems. d Examples are thoughts of situations being either right or wrong ( with out seeing any areas in between, ) drawing conclusions about situations with out knowing all the facts, and thinking we can know what other people are thinking. Do you have some situations or thoughts about things happening in the past or present which causes you to feel unhappy? I will help you develop healthier ways of seeing the problem and coping with your emotions. We will also explore the ways you have been dealing with the problem and either develop an Action Plan or healthier ways to cope if the situation can not be changed.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

Another treatment method I use is Dialectical Behavioral Therapy or DBT. This is a evidence based approach that helps improve mental health conditions as depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder and borderline personality disorder. This involves 4 sections and we will focus on the ones that are the most relevant to your situation. These sections focus on the areas of managing stress, improving our negative emotions, and relationships. The focus is to help us find a balance with our thoughts, emotions (as stopping to think for a moment before reacting in anger, ) and a balance between caring for our personal needs and the needs of others. This approach helps us develop a healthier more balanced way of dealing with emotions and relationships.

Motivational Interviewing

I will also utilize Motivational Interviewing to help focus on gaining a clear understanding of the problem and how you want to see things improve. This may involve getting a history of the problem and what you have tried previously. It is also important to understand how you feel about your role that is needed with making the needed changes
