About me

I am Dr. Chambers, a licensed professional counselor and professor with years of experience helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life’s challenges. My approach is warm, collaborative, and integrative, drawing on evidence-based practices like CBT, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing, while always centering your unique needs and goals. Together, we will create a safe, supportive space where you can gain clarity, develop coping strategies, and move toward lasting growth and healing.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, you can expect a warm and welcoming space where we focus on getting to know you. I will ask questions about your background, current concerns, and what you hope to gain from therapy. Together, we will begin identifying your goals and exploring the areas you would like to work on. My aim is to create a safe, supportive environment where you feel heard, respected, and comfortable taking the first steps toward growth and healing.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

What stands out about my therapeutic approach is the way I integrate evidence-based methods like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness practices, and motivational interviewing with a person-centered, compassionate style. I tailor each session to fit your unique story, strengths, and goals rather than using a “one-size-fits-all” model. Clients often share that they appreciate how I balance empathy and support with practical tools that lead to real, lasting change in their daily lives and relationships.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I am best positioned to serve clients who are navigating challenges with depression, anxiety, and identity, as well as those exploring sexual health, intimacy, and relationship concerns. I enjoy supporting youth and young adults who are working through life transitions, self-discovery, and personal growth, as well as LGBTQ+ individuals seeking an affirming space to process their experiences. Whether you are working to heal, strengthen your relationships, or gain clarity about who you are, I provide a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment to help you move toward your goals.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have extensive experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) both in my private practice and in the academic setting where I teach counseling students. Over the years, I have found CBT to be an evidence-based, flexible, and highly effective approach for a variety of issues including anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, chronic pain, and post-traumatic stress. My exposure to CBT began during my clinical training, and I have continued to deepen my skills through ongoing professional development and supervision. I view CBT not just as a set of techniques but as a collaborative, structured framework that helps clients identify and shift unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviors. Because I work with clients across the lifespan, I have adapted CBT to be developmentally appropriate—from simplified thought records for adolescents to more complex schema work with adults.

Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP)

Assessment & Conceptualization: I start by collaboratively identifying the client’s core concerns, automatic thoughts, and behavioral patterns. This sets the foundation for a shared understanding of the problem. Skills Training: Depending on the client’s needs, I teach cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, or exposure techniques. For example, with anxiety, I may integrate gradual exposure and relaxation training alongside thought-challenging exercises. Homework & Practice: I emphasize between-session practice. Clients might complete thought logs, experiment with new behaviors, or practice mindfulness-based CBT strategies to reinforce learning. Integration with Other Modalities: While CBT is central, I often blend it with motivational interviewing, mindfulness-based approaches (like ACT and DBT skills), and existential therapy. This allows me to address not just symptoms but also deeper issues of meaning, identity, and values. Cultural & Ecosystemic Considerations: Given my background working with diverse populations, I ensure that CBT interventions are culturally sensitive and contextually relevant.
