Hello, my name is Lisa Rodgers, and I have many years as a Mental Health Therapist. I am a licensed professional counselor in the State of Georgia. I have a master's degree in community agency counseling from Cleveland State University and a master's degree in theology from Liberty University. I offer Christian/Pastoral counseling, individual counseling, personal and social counseling, as well as career counseling. My approach is collaborative and client-centered, creating a safe space for you to gain healing and growth through developing and implementing coping strategies. The following modalities are Eclectic based on client’s needs consisting of Christian/Pastoral counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, insight-oriented, as well as others. I also incorporate various kinds of techniques such as breathing techniques, relaxation techniques, timelines and others to assist my client toward healing and growth. I specialize in anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, life transitions, obsessive thoughts and acts/OCD, work-related issues, chronic illnesses, women issues, self-esteem, relationship/peer issues, grief, anger management, trauma and other life difficulties and challenges.
I will introduce myself, give education/credential information, confidentiality, modalities/approaches, and policy information. The clients can expect to have an assessment so that I can get to know them. The assessment is the first session that will allow me to gain historical and background information, as well as psychological and physiological symptoms so that I can best treat my prospective client. I will also assess the client's mental health and trauma status. This session will allow the both of us to find out if we are a good fit together. I will also review any outcome measures to assess your mental health symptoms and track them toward my client's progress for discharge. Also, we will discuss the client's reasons for therapy, stressors, coping skills, support system and recreational/community/religious and/or groups or activities. We will discuss the type of treatment and treatment recommendations. The session will end with asking the client if they have any questions or concerns and then schedule for the next session.
Great listener, empathetic, goal oriented/focused, structured, detailed, effective communicator, client-centered/Carl Roger's microskills, client advocate,
I love working with people who are young and middle-aged professionals, as well as older adults who may be retired. I also love working with people who are having a hard time with finding their life's purpose, work stressors or the stay-at-home parent. I love working with college students, as well as the professional who is struggling at work or home. My clients are people who are ready to learn, heal and grow from life's challenges. These are the people who may feel stuck and defeated but are eager to move out of their current circumstances. My clients are from different "walks" of life with various types of life experiences and challenges. My clients also value their treatment and are willing to do the work in order to make that change.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an approach that is collaborative between therapist and client. CBT helps people with identifying and change unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors. This approach involves teaching clients how their thoughts influence their emotions which effect their behaviors. I help clients reframe their thoughts by identifying cognitive distortions or self-defeating thoughts. I use this approach through workbooks, worksheets, psychoeducation, timelines, relaxation/breathing techniques, Erik Erickson's psychosocial stages and talk therapy.
Christian counseling deals with helping the client to navigate life challenges through a Christian worldview by using practices such as prayer, scripture reading, biblical teachings and other faith-based principles. I help clients with facing individual difficulties that strengthen their relationship with God and to promote healing. I use this approach through workbooks, worksheets, psychoeducation and talk therapy.
I work with clients by using Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). DBT is an approach that helps clients with managing negative or difficult emotions, improve interpersonal relationship, and reduce harmful behaviors. I use this approach through workbooks, worksheets, psychoeducation and talk therapy. The therapy sessions are focused on the 4 keys areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
I use Acceptance and commitment (ACT) in my sessions with clients to help with difficult thoughts and feelings. This approach assists clients with accepting difficult thoughts and feelings, while committing to behaviors that will align with their value system. I use workbooks, worksheets, psychoeducation and talk therapy.
I utilize insight-oriented therapy with clients, which is a sub-type of psychodynamic therapy. Insight-oriented therapy helps with clients with gaining insight and awareness into how their past experiences affect their current state. I use a timeline to assist clients with understanding themes, patterns and other helpful insights. This is used to uncover underlying beliefs, patterns, and emotions that influence current behaviors. I also incorporate dream analysis in order to identify and interpret symbols and themes that relate to waking life.
