Hi, I’m Cynthia Morton, and I’m passionate about helping young people feel seen, heard, and empowered. With over 30 years of experience working with youth and families in schools, counseling, and community programs, I bring a deep understanding of the unique challenges children, teens, and young adults face today. I offer specialized support for students making key transitions—from middle school to high school, high school to college, and beyond. As a trained Independent Educational Consultant, I also work with students with ADHD and executive functioning challenges, helping them navigate academic demands and develop self-management skills. My background in school counseling and educational planning allows me to bridge emotional and academic support in a way that empowers students and families. My approach is compassionate and person-centered, grounded in reality and tailored to each individual’s strengths, needs, and goals. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, school-related stress, life transitions, conflict, or self-esteem, you don’t have to face it alone. I believe in the power of relationships, humor, and hope. Whether we’re working on managing emotions, building self-confidence, or healing from difficult experiences, I’m here to support you every step of the way.
The first counseling session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin building a foundation of trust and understanding. Whether you're a teen, young adult, or adult, the session is designed to be supportive, conversational, and tailored to your comfort level. We’ll start by reviewing some important details, such as confidentiality, telehealth guidelines, and what you can expect from the counseling process. If you're a teen, I’ll also clarify what information remains private between us and what might be shared with caregivers, always with your best interest in mind. Most of the session will focus on getting to know you—your reasons for coming to counseling, what’s been going on in your life, and what you hope to gain from our work together. You don’t need to prepare anything or have all the answers; just showing up is enough. I’ll ask some guiding questions to learn about your concerns, strengths, and goals, and give you space to share what feels important. This session also gives you a chance to see if my style is a good fit for you. Therapy is a collaborative process, and it's important that you feel comfortable and supported. You’re welcome to ask questions about the counseling process, my approach, or what future sessions might look like. By the end of the first session, we’ll begin to outline some next steps, such as setting early goals, identifying priorities, or discussing any strategies or tools that may be helpful to you between sessions.
As a Christian therapist, one of my greatest strengths is the ability to integrate faith with evidence-based practices in a way that honors the whole person—body, mind, and spirit. I meet clients where they are spiritually, emotionally, and mentally, and help them grow in alignment with their values, beliefs, and life purpose. I bring over three decades of experience walking alongside clients with compassion, clarity, and respect. My clinical strength includes bridging faith and mental health. I help clients explore spiritual questions and biblical principles while also addressing cognitive, emotional, and behavioral challenges through grounded therapeutic tools. Whether clients want prayer, scripture, or simply a therapist who understands their faith perspective, I offer a safe space to explore how faith informs their healing.
My ideal clients include teens, young adults, and adults who are navigating periods of transition, stress, and personal growth. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of how to move forward—but they’re also open to exploring their patterns, learning new tools, and making meaningful change. I work especially well with: Teens and young adults managing school pressure, social struggles, or the transition from high school to college Students with ADHD or executive functioning challenges who need support with organization, time management, and emotional regulation Clients experiencing anxiety, self-doubt, or low self-esteem who want to build confidence and healthier coping skills Individuals navigating life transitions, such as moving schools, starting college, launching into adulthood, or adjusting to family or relationship changes Parents and caregivers seeking guidance in supporting their child’s emotional health and educational journey Clients facing conflict or communication issues, who are ready to learn new ways to resolve interpersonal challenges and strengthen relationships
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help youth understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. I’ve been trained in several forms of CBT, including Trauma-Informed CBT and CBT for Suicide Prevention. This allows me to tailor sessions to help young people develop healthier thinking patterns, manage anxiety and depression, and build effective coping skills. Together, we focus on practical strategies that empower students to feel more in control of their emotions and behaviors.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
DBT is especially helpful for youth who experience intense emotions or struggle with relationships, self-harm, or impulsive behavior. In our work, I incorporate DBT skills such as staying in the present, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance. These tools help students learn how to cope in the moment, manage stress, and navigate social situations more confidently. DBT offers structure, validation, and real-life tools for change.
Christian Counseling
For families seeking a faith-based approach, I offer Christian Counseling that integrates biblical principles with proven therapeutic techniques. This approach provides a safe space for young people to explore emotional struggles through the lens of their faith, build spiritual resilience, and find hope and healing grounded in Christian values. Counseling can include scripture, prayer, and discussions of faith as desired by the family and youth.
Reality Therapy
eality Therapy focuses on helping youth take ownership of their choices and make positive changes to meet their needs in healthy, responsible ways. We explore what they truly want and how their current behaviors are helping—or hindering—them from getting there. This approach is practical, respectful, and empowering, emphasizing accountability, relationships, and personal growth.
Trauma Informed Care
I am certified in Trauma-Informed Care through Butler University, with training in strategies to calm the nervous system and support youth who have experienced trauma. My approach is grounded in safety, trust, and compassion. I recognize the impact trauma can have on a young person’s development, behavior, and emotional regulation. I use body-based and evidence-informed tools to help students feel safe, reduce anxiety, and restore a sense of control in their lives.
