Hello, I am grateful for your time in reading this. My name is Katrina Spohn and I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker (with supervision designation) in Ohio. I come to you with 11 years of experience in direct clinical work. I have worked in a variety of settings (community, home, office-based), but was enthralled with the emergence of telehealth service delivery. I am deeply passionate about the work that I do with clients. I am a highly attuned individual, who holds a great deal of empathy and compassion. When I am with you, I am with you. I want to help support you to speak the unspeakable; put into words that which seems so overwhelming to decipher. I am not a doctor, I am a guide and partner in your life's journey. I am eclectic in style and will adapt an individualized approach in order to best meet each of my client's needs. I am extremely open and receptive, and ready to really listen.
In our first session together, we will introduce ourselves and I will reflect on the highlighted concerns you currently have that brings you to therapy, as well as history. We will discuss what services will look like in our work together. I will answer any questions you may have and gather your thoughts on what you envision things looking like by the end of therapy. I will support you in identifying key goals you would like to work towards. I will also assess what styles may be effective/not effective in supporting you and explore what you are looking for.
I am a seasoned clinician with a wealth of knowledge regarding psychology, psychotherapy, and emotional attunement.
I am highly competent and knowledgeable in providing mental health treatment to individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, attachment difficulties, life transitions, and those who have experienced trauma. In addition, I support challenges in forming/maintaining healthy relationships. I utilize an integrative approach with evidence-based practices interwoven with empathy and active listening to promote meaningful healing and personal growth. I adapt a holistic focus-- supporting the whole person, mind, body, and soul. I approach each client with a person-centered mindset, ensuring that their unique experiences, strengths, and goals guide the therapeutic process. By adapting my methods to meet each individual’s needs, I strive to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters trust and openness. The therapeutic relationship is sacred, and establishing positive rapport in the therapist- client relationship is essential. I integrate evidence-based practices with empathy and active listening to promote meaningful healing and personal growth. My work emphasizes getting to the roots of the symptoms clients are experiencing, building resilience, enhancing coping skills, and empowering clients to navigate challenges with confidence. I am committed to clients being truly seen and heard. Ultimately, my goal is to walk alongside clients on their journey, helping them reclaim their sense of self and well-being.
Attachment-based
Attachment-based treatment has been an intense focus throughout my career and an integral lens that I hold. The relationships that we have forged through early life experiences impact everything and have shaped who we are in the present moment. In my work, I dare to dig deep-- which requires getting to the core of the roots. This work is very hard, but with a skilled, compassionate support in a safe environment, it can be the most rewarding choice one makes to unpack what has brought each of us to who we are today. An Attachment-based treatment focus formulates a rich understanding of one self in relation to the world around us.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)l involves learning to see your thoughts about yourself as separate from your actions. By doing so, one can make space for their thoughts and feelings without becoming entangled with them, Mindfulness is a key element, in which a non-judgmental stance is taken towards "noticing" of thoughts and emotions, lessening attachment to them, and consequently, reducing their intensity. This change in relationship to them allows your inner thoughts and feelings to occur without trying to change or ignore them. Additionally, compassion is fostered towards one's inner experience. The element of mindfulness within this method also focuses on making conscious effort towards being in the present moment, preventing past experiences, memories, and conditioning from negatively affecting your interactions in the here and now. Psychological flexibility is built through this framework, which allows for greater freedom in making choices and responses which align with personal values, rather than being hijacked by emotional intensity, urges, and triggered sensations. This method ultimately can positively transform one's relationship with their thoughts and feelings and restore a sense of self-control.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Negative/unhealthy thought patterns can lead to emotional distress, anxiety,, depression, and maladaptive behavioral responses. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a foundational treatment method that involves psychoeducation to understand the interconnectiveness between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Increasing the understanding of specific patterns of thoughts and emotions can allow for improved control over how one can respond to them in a healthy way. This decreases internal emotional distress and builds insight into how behavior and mood can strongly be shaped and driven by our thoughts and feelings. It can help to break and transform unhelpful patterns into more positive, desired patterns.
