Guide to What to Expect in Your First Therapy Session and the start of Therapeutic Journey Part 1 (Intro Session) Introduction and Welcome: I will begin the session by welcoming you and introducing myself. I will briefly explain their therapeutic approach and how the sessions will be structured. This is also a chance for you to ask any initial questions or express any concerns you may have. Breaking the ICE: I will create a safe and supportive environment, aiming to build rapport and establish trust with you. Confidentiality and Limits: I will explain the confidentiality policy and its limits. We will discuss my responsibilities and commitment to keeping your information confidential unless there are legal or ethical obligations to disclose specific information, such as if you or someone else is in immediate danger. It's important for you to understand and feel comfortable with the confidentiality agreement and my mandating reporting obligation. Part 2 Gathering Information: To better understand your background, current concerns, and goals for therapy, I will ask you questions about your personal history, relationships, work or school, and any symptoms or challenges you are experiencing. It's important to be open and honest during this process. Please keep in mind that I use this patient intake method with all my patients. So, some of the questions may not necessarily apply to you. Exploring Your Concerns: I will invite you to share more about the specific issues or challenges that led you to seek therapy. During this activity I encourage you to express your thoughts, emotions, and any patterns or behaviors that may be relevant to your concerns. Remember, therapy is a nonjudgmental space for you to share openly. Concluding the evaluation: I will wrap up with going over what the Therapeutic Journey might look like for you going forward. Having taken the time to get to know you I will determine if I have the skills and techniques you will require for your transformation. We together will decide if this platform and I are an appropriate fit for you. I will provide you with some tools, technique and or worksheets for you to start building your tool kit. I will ask you to join me in the commitment in your therapeutic journey. Keep in mind this entire process is for you and your well-being.
