I’m Dr. LaShawn Jackson Turner, a Licensed Professional Counselor and public health expert with a passion for healing, advocacy, and community impact. I specialize in trauma recovery and behavioral health for individuals, families, and organizations. I help clients build emotionally resilient lives, ethically grounded systems, and sustainable solutions for lasting change. LaShawn Jackson Turner, DrPH, LPC- “It is my desire to offer a safe nonjudgmental space for self-reflection and change. Often in life we require additional support to make changes or to meet specific goals. Having someone who is willing and available to provide a protected space for change and transition can be instrumental in making desired changes.”
In your first session with me, clients can expect a warm, supportive, and structured experience focused on building trust and understanding their unique needs. We’ll discuss what brought you in, explore your goals, review your history, and begin developing a personalized plan for healing or growth. I’ll also answer any questions you have about the process, and together, we’ll set the foundation for a collaborative and empowering therapeutic or consulting relationship.
My greatest strengths as a provider are compassion, clarity, and clinical depth. I bring a trauma-informed, culturally responsive approach to every session, grounded in both evidence-based practice and real-world experience. I’m skilled at creating safe, nonjudgmental spaces where clients feel seen, heard, and empowered to grow. Whether working with individuals, families, or organizations, I balance empathy with structure—helping clients move forward with purpose, confidence, and lasting impact.
Clients that desire healing and transformation while requiring structure, transparency, and a willingness to engage. Clients seeking expert guidance in trauma recovery, and behavioral health.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is used in my practice because it is a highly effective, evidence-based approach for treating clients who struggle with intense emotions, impulsive behaviors, interpersonal difficulties, and self-destructive coping mechanisms.
EMDR is used in my practice because it is a powerful, trauma-focused therapy that helps clients process and heal from distressing life experiences—particularly those that are stuck or unresolved in the brain and body.
Many trauma survivors avoid reminders of their trauma, which can shrink their lives over time. PE is designed to: • Reduce avoidance behaviors • Increase daily functioning • Help clients regain a sense of control and safety
TF-CBT is used in my practice because it is one of the most effective, evidence-based treatments for children and adolescents who have experienced trauma.
Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) is used in my practice because it is a relationship-based, trauma-informed treatment specifically designed for infants, toddlers, and young children (ages 0–5) who have experienced trauma or disruptions in caregiving.
