Hi! I am a licensed mental health counselor in both North Carolina and Florida. I do mostly telehealth and offer in-person sessions for folks in the WNC area. I have been a therapist for 7 years. I am certified in EMDR and love to help other therapists hone their EMDR skills, which in turn helps me to be a better EMDR therapsit. The therapeutic space I share with clients is a sacred space. I attend trainings that I believe help to create that sacred space. I also really love to use humor if/when it is possible as I do believe laughter can be healing and connective.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
During the first session after our intake, you can expect that we will spend time getting to know one another, we will likely go over informed consent - which is an opportunity for us to set the stage for what we want therapy to look like and cover some important aspects of the counseling relationship.
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I am not your traditional talk therapist, I am good at being curious, communicating non-violently (seeking consent rather than telling you what you need and what you need to be doing), and building rapport with clients. I am also very knowledgeable of the types of therapies I use. Also, I enjoy a good laugh and bring it into the process when it is appropriate.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
The folks I work with are often experiencing symptoms related to anxiety, religious/spiritual trauma and abuse, sexual assault and/or abuse, self-doubt and low self-esteem, depression, interpersonal struggles, relationship/attachment struggles, and role changes. I work with adults in the LGBTQ+ community providing support and safe space to explore their identity, accept who they are, develop skills to manage and heal from difficult experiences, and decide how they want to show up in the world.
EMDR
I utilize EMDR to help clients heal from past adverse experiences. Those past experiences often inform how we interact with ourselves, others, and the world. Most clients I work with come to therapy due to how their past continues to affect their present moment in difficult and challenging ways. EMDR is different than normal talk therapy and can be more efficient, taking less time to experience healing and improvement in overall mental and emotional well-being.
Polyvagal Therapy
Polyvagal therapy encourages clients to get to know and befriend their nervous system. It is a beautiful way to help folks learn and engage with the mind/body connection. Through the use of polyvagal therapy, clients learn to identify their current state as well as what works to deepen that state and/or helps to shift states back to regulation.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
The approach of IFS is the idea that we all have parts that show up to protect us from the hard things that have happened in our lives and that sometimes the work of those parts is not as helpful as it once was. IFS parts work can help client understand "self energy" and recognize when a part is taking over. We will also work with these parts, offering compassion and acceptance of their role in our lives while also helping those parts to trust the self more and heal. I integrate parts work into EMDR as way to recognize what is present and be with it so it can work with us and not against us.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
Above all other therapies or interventions, the most important parts of the therapeutic process is the relationship between therapist and client. I utilize person-centered therapy techniques of unconditional positive regard, empathy, and validation to create safety and connection with clients.

I have had two sessions with LK and both have been truly amazing. LK is personable, knowledgeable, authentic and funny. Immediately upon meeting LK for the first time I knew they were the therapist for me…which hasn’t been easy to find. Their approach is genuine and direct which is exactly what I need. I am looking forward to continuing therapy with LK.

I am a therapist and am consistently challenged by LK to dig in and do the harder work that I know I need but feel resistant to doing. They bring authenticity and warmth to the session while empowering my past self to heal from trauma. I cannot recommend this provider enough. Thank you, LK!

LK has been a game changer for me. As a trauma therapist myself, I am admittedly pretty picky about who I go to for help. LK is kind, authentic, present, affirming, humorous, challenging, and has helped me get to a different place in my mental health journey. With EMDR being a huge component in my journey, I am so grateful I landed on a competent and confident therapist to support me through the process. Thank you, LK! Strong work đź’Ş
