Hi! I am a licensed mental health counselor in both North Carolina and Florida. I do mostly telehealth and I do in-person sessions for folks in the WNC area. I have been a therapist for 6 years. I am certified in EMDR and love to help other therapists hone their EMDR skills, which in turn helps me to be a better EMDR therapsit. The therapeutic space I share with clients is a sacred space. I attend trainings that I believe help to create that sacred space. I also really love to use humor if/when it is possible as I do believe laughter can be healing and connective.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During the first session after our intake, you can expect that we will spend time getting to know one another, we will likely go over informed consent - which is an opportunity for us to set the stage for what we want therapy to look like and cover some important aspects of the counseling relationship.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I am not your traditional talk therapist, I am good at being curious, communicating non-violently (seeking consent rather than telling you want you need and what you need to be doing), and building rapport with clients. I am also very knowledgeable of the types of therapies I use. Also, I enjoy a good laugh and bring it into the process when it is appropriate.

My treatment methods

EMDR

I utilize EMDR to help clients heal from past adverse experiences. Those past experiences often inform how we interact with ourselves, others, and the world. Most clients I work with come to therapy due to how their past continues to affect their present moment in difficult and challenging ways. EMDR is different than normal talk therapy and can be more efficient, taking less time to experience healing and improvement in overall mental and emotional well-being.

Polyvagal Therapy

Polyvagal therapy encourages clients to get to know and befriend their nervous system. It is a beautiful way to help folks learn and engage with the mind/body connection. Through the use of polyvagal therapy, clients learn to identify their current state as well as what works to deepen that state and/or helps to shift states back to regulation.

Gestalt

This is a great therapy for preparing clients for EMDR. I use Gestalt to help myself and clients get curious about what is happening in the present moment. It creates a space of curiosity and wonderment. Clients become less afraid of their experiences and learn to recognize that emotions, thoughts, and body sensations are here to communicate to us what is going on both externally and internally. A large part of EMDR reprocessing is just allowing what is present to be present. Participating in a mixture of Gestalt and polyvagal can help clients develop skills for everyday life and for engaging in EMDR.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

Above all other therapies or interventions, the most important parts of the therapeutic process is the relationship between therapist and client. I utilize person-centered therapy techniques of unconditional positive regard, empathy, and validation to create safety and connection with clients.
