Sonya is a licensed professional counselor and board certified dance/movement therapist whose work is informed by a humanistic, strengths-based, person-centered approach, developmental theories, and the work of early dance/movement therapist Trudi Schoop. She strives to create a safe space for clients to be their authentic self and find ways to continue their growth within the therapeutic relationship. In her free time, Sonya continues to enjoy engaging in her own movement practice, working as a certified Pilates instructor, and spending time with her cat.
Sonya strives to create a safe space for clients to be their authentic self and find ways to continue their growth within the therapeutic relationship, which starts in the first session. Building rapport, getting to know each other and engaging in conversation about different aspects of the therapeutic process can be expected in our first session together.
Sonya’s specialties include body based approaches, including movement and dance, but don’t let that scare you away! Sometimes the smallest engagement with movement, such as breathing, rubbing your palm or tapping your fingertips can be empowering.
I pull from CBT and use techniques to assist with challenging negative thoughts, improving mindset and reducing heightened emotional states.
I am a board-certified dance/movement therapist and truly believe in the body/mind connection within wellness.
All of my approaches are based on the person who comes into session with me. I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship and finding the right therapist for you.
