I'm Dr. Tara Chambers. I hold three licenses in the State of Illinois and have four degrees in Human Behavior/Clinical Counseling/and Psychology. I would describe myself as naturally solution focused but not always driven for brief therapy. I believe that therapy takes time but whether you have one day a month, one day a week, or only a handful of days a year, any amount of time working on improving your life and your view of yourself is progress. I'm comfortable working on hard topics and thankful for an opportunity to be part of your healing journey.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

The first session shouldn't feel much different than any of the rest. Each session is a process of you sharing about yourself and me learning about that person. As we build layers of learning, we will begin to apply interventions and treatment methods that fit your needs and provide you with new ways of thinking, behaving, and coping in your day-to-day.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I feel my greatest strength in this field is that I am relentlessly dedicated to supporting my clients. We can go down any road and talk about any topic without judgement. I am here to help others and that is always going to look different for everyone. Whatever it looks like for you, is fine with me. There is no topic too bad or scary to have hope and to find healing.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Therapy is my passion. While it is also my career, I can truly say that I have found a job that feels more like a hobby. I show up to work each day excited to be here, deeply invested in every person that I meet, and really happy to be a small part of people's lives. I often use humor and a relaxed vibe to give patients a place to unapologetically be themselves. There's work to be done in therapy and I will challenge and push you to dig deep, adjust your thinking, and evaluate your behaviors but it will not feel like a job, rather a friendship of growing and healing.

My treatment methods

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Getting to the heart of what is bothering you is important to some people. Everyone is not ready or interested in digging into their past but are hopeful to build something new in their right now. Solution-focused therapy is intended to support immediate addressing of needs, growth, and behavioral change that sparks a domino of wellness across the life experience. This is often best complimented, upon stability of the right now, with trauma-focused therapy that allows for deeper healing from the past, as well.

Christian Counseling

As a Christian, applying bible-based principles to daily living can be a powerful tool to decrease the negative impact that the world has on our wellness. I'm happy to work with you to apply your beliefs in a loving environment with no judgement for where you are or where you have been on that journey.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

My PhD is in human behavior, making cognitive behavioral therapy and behavioral-focused services one of my favorite modules to introduce into the therapy process. It is difficult to see our own behavioral need but small adjustments can make profound differences in your daily living.

EMDR

I am a fully trained EMDR therapist with experience providing EMDR to both adults and children. Application of EMDR is a power tool to tackle blocks in recovery and expedite the healing process.
