I'm Dr. Tara Chambers. I hold three licenses in the State of Illinois and have four degrees in Human Behavior/Clinical Counseling/and Psychology. I would describe myself as naturally solution focused but not always driven for brief therapy. I believe that therapy takes time but whether you have one day a month, one day a week, or only a handful of days a year, any amount of time working on improving your life and your view of yourself is progress. I'm comfortable working on hard topics and specialize in sexual abuse, sexual offending, and sexualized behavioral problems but also see clients with generalized anxiety, depression, and anything in beyond or in between. If it is mental health related, I'm thankful for an opportunity to be part of your healing journey.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

The first session shouldn't feel much different than any of the rest. Each session is a process of you sharing about yourself and me learning about that person. As we build layers of learning, we will begin to apply interventions and treatment methods that fit your needs and provide you with new ways of thinking, behaving, and coping in your day-to-day.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I feel like this is a great spot for listing licenses, certifications, and degrees. However, I feel my greatest strength in this field is that I am relentlessly dedicated to supporting my clients, no matter what they may look like or require. We can go down any road and talk about any topic without judgement. I am here to help others and that is always going to look different for everyone. Whatever it looks like for you, is fine with me. There is no topic too bad or scary to have hope and to find healing.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

Therapy is my passion. While it is also my career, I can truly say that I have found a job that feels more like a hobby. I show up to work each day excited to be here, deeply invested in every person that I meet, and really happy to be a small part of people's lives. I often use humor and a relaxed vibe to give patients a place to unapologetically be themselves. There's work to be done in therapy and I will challenge and push you to dig deep, adjust your thinking, and evaluate your behaviors but it will not feel like a job, rather a friendship of growing and healing.

My treatment methods

Trauma Informed Care

Trauma-informed counseling allows people to dig into the deeper contributions to their mental health struggles. Specializing in sexual abuse, sexual violence, reacting sexual behavioral problems, and other offender and victim based needs, trauma is often at the heart of my treatment for many patients. However, generalized trauma treatment, is applicable to the majority of patients regardless of their initial reason for starting therapy. Most people have suffered at least some amount of trauma, either directly or vicariously, in their life. Counseling with a trauma focus is a wonderful way to connects those dots and start the healing process.

Psychological Testing And Evaluation

As a licensed Sex Offender Treatment Provider and Sex Offender Evaluator, I specialize in providing risk evaluation services, including comprehensive psychosexual evaluations and both adult and juvenile risk-reduction treatment using the RNR model for increasing strengths and decreasing risks.

Christian Counseling

As a Christian, applying bible-based principles to daily living can be a powerful tool to decrease the negative impact that the world has on our wellness by seeking out a higher level of health, hope, and healing.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

My PhD is in human behavior, making cognitive behavioral therapy and behavioral-focused services one of my favorite modules to introduce into the therapy process.

EMDR

I am a fully trained EMDR therapist with experience providing EMDR to both adults and children. Application of EMDR is a power tool to tackle blocks in recovery and expedite the healing process.
