New to Grow
I am licensed as a Professional Counselor in three states (LPC in Alabama, LPC-S in Louisiana, & LPCC-S in Kentucky). I see clients statewide in the virtual space utilizing telehealth. I work with clients across the adult lifespan for various concerns related to life's difficulties. My journey to becoming a counselor started with a profound interest and curiosity in the human condition. After starting my studies in psychology, I quickly learned that I wanted to hear people’s stories and be there with them as they navigated their history and made adjustments for a better future. Seeing others reach their goals and feel empowered motivates me to continue in this field.
In the first session, new clients can expect to spend time learning about the counseling process, including confidentiality and general expectations. I will invite the client to share their reasons for seeking support. I hope to collaboratively explore potential goals and build a foundation of trust and understanding, empowering the client to engage in the therapeutic journey.
My counseling approach is rooted in person-centered, feminist, and trauma-informed care, emphasizing empowerment, resilience, and holistic well-being. I work to provide a safe, affirming space for clients from diverse backgrounds and identities, guiding them through life's challenges with empathy and expertise.
I believe that my approach works well for people at many stages in life. After more than a decade of work in college counseling centers and employee assistance programs, I have found that my services are a good match for young adults, individuals facing major milestones and transitions, and women seeking life balance. I specialize in treating stress, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and career uncertainty.
I focus on creating a supportive, nonjudgmental space where you can feel safe to explore your thoughts and feelings. I approach our work with empathy, genuine understanding, and unconditional positive regard, because I believe you have the inner resources and capacity to grow. Rather than giving direct advice, I’ll help you gain self-awareness and discover your own solutions.
I approach counseling from a feminist perspective, which means I view our work together through the lens of equality and empowerment. I recognize how societal and cultural factors can impact your experiences and well-being, and I aim to help you explore and challenge these influences. My goal is to create a collaborative relationship where your voice is central, and together, we work toward building self-awareness, personal strength, and meaningful change.
I use a cognitive-behavioral approach, which means we’ll focus on how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. Together, we’ll identify unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors that may be causing distress and work on developing more balanced ways of thinking and responding. My goal is to give you practical tools and strategies that you can use to cope with challenges and create lasting, positive change in your life.
