Hello, I'm Randy Johnson, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) with more than 37 years of experience helping individuals and couples navigate life's challenges and build healthier, more fulfilling relationships.
My specialties include couples therapy, relationship repair, emotional intimacy, and helping men overcome problematic porn use and compulsive sexual behaviors.
My specialties include couples therapy, relationship repair, emotional intimacy, and helping men overcome problematic porn use and compulsive sexual behaviors. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and practical. I integrate attachment theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), the Gottman Method, with cognitive-behavioral strategies to help clients understand the patterns behind their struggles, develop effective skills, and create lasting change. Whether you're working through personal challenges, trying to rebuild trust, or hoping to strengthen your marriage, my goal is to help you move forward with greater confidence, connection, and purpose.
First session
My goal is for you to leave our first session feeling heard, understood, and encouraged. I want you to experience compassion rather than judgment and begin to see that change is possible, even when your circumstances feel overwhelming. We'll begin exploring what's bringing you to therapy, what matters most to you, and what you hope will be different. You don't need to have everything figured out before we meet. We'll work together to identify your concerns, recognize your strengths, and begin developing a sense of direction and hope for the future.
Strengths
I bring more than three decades of clinical experience, a strong understanding of relationship dynamics, and a genuine commitment to meeting clients where they are. My style balances empathy with practical, goal-oriented strategies. I don't believe shame or judgment creates lasting change. Instead, I help clients understand the reasons behind their struggles, recognize unhelpful patterns, and practice new ways of responding. An added dimension of my approach is an understanding of brain science, neuroplasticity, and the role of brain chemistry in shaping emotions, behaviors, and relationships. I help clients understand how their brains learn patterns of responding, how stress and emotional experiences influence behavior, and how intentional practice can strengthen healthier responses over time. This knowledge provides a foundation for understanding how lasting behavioral change can improve emotional regulation, strengthen connection, and support healthier, more fulfilling relationships. I often incorporate structured action plans and exercises that clients can use between sessions, so progress continues beyond our time together. With couples, I focus on emotional safety, communication, trust, and secure connection. With men struggling with porn use, I help them understand triggers, strengthen emotional regulation, and develop healthier ways to manage stress and build intimacy. My goal is not simply to help you solve today's problem, but to equip you with the understanding, practical tools, and skills that support lasting growth and meaningful change.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are individuals and couples who want to “define how they want to do marriage” understand themselves better, overcome challenges, and build more fulfilling lives and relationships. I especially enjoy working with couples who want to be more intentional about how they build their marriage, define their shared values, communicate, navigate conflict, and create a lasting connection. I also work well with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, personal trauma, and relationship difficulties. I have a particular interest in helping men who struggle with porn or compulsive sexual behaviors move beyond shame, understand the patterns behind their behavior, and develop healthier ways of managing emotions and building intimacy. Whether you're feeling stuck, disconnected, overwhelmed, or simply ready for a change, you don't have to have all the answers before we begin. A willingness to explore new possibilities and work toward meaningful change is a great place to start.
Treatment methods
Attachment-based
I use Attachment Theory as a framework for helping clients understand how their early childhood experiences and relationships influence their emotions, beliefs, behaviors, and relationships today. Our early experiences often shape how we view ourselves, how we trust others, how we respond to conflict, and how we seek connection and security. By identifying and understanding your attachment patterns, we'll begin to recognize behaviors that may have once helped you cope but are no longer serving you well. This awareness creates an opportunity to develop healthier ways of managing emotions, responding to stress, communicating needs, and building secure, meaningful relationships. My approach is compassionate and nonjudgmental. Rather than focusing only on what you want to change, we explore the underlying reasons behind your patterns and develop practical strategies to help you make lasting changes. My goal is to help you move beyond simply understanding your past toward creating a healthier, more intentional present and future.
