Are you feeling depressed or anxious? Struggling to make sense of your relationships? Let me help! Hello, I’m Mike McInerney, a part-time private therapist for adults. I have been counseling adults and families for more than 20 years. Maybe you found me searching for online counseling services or maybe you were referred here by a friend or family member. First and foremost, I wish you well. Life is full of challenges and we could all use a little help. Currently, I am open to working with a small handful of clients online on Mondays/Tuesdays. My approach is inviting, and warm, and I use humor if/when appropriate. Working with a therapist should be tailored to meet your needs. Some people need a safe, confidential space to explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Other people prefer a more solution-focused approach. Working together, we will figure out what is best for you. Please feel free to contact me. (Responses are typically in 48hrs)

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

Clients can expect me to listen very intently as to what they are struggling with. I may pause to ask more detailed questions, but I prefer to listen rather than to do a formal intake where clients are asked far too many questions in the first session.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I feel my biggest strength is to be truly present with my clients, thus allowing them to think and feel freely in the therapeutic session.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

My strengths are in individual adult therapy, which includes men, women, and young adults experiencing depression, anxiety, divorce, work stress, and life transitions. Clients who are motivated to work in and out of the therapy session see the best results.

My treatment methods

Existential

Many times people need to find meaning in their lives. Such meaning should align with one's core beliefs and values. This helps to create a sense of deeper change and life satisfaction.

Solution Focused Brief Treatment

Some clients want a more solution-focused approach. This type of therapy can be brief with concrete goals set and behaviors measured.
