New to Grow
I have worked in behavioral health for twenty-one (21) years with children to older adults in several areas, such as private practice and inpatient hospitalization. I have a calm disposition, listening skills, and insight into what is the root cause of the distress. I will go the second mile to help a client with what brought you to counseling. Blessings.
My first session is a casual meet and greet. My clients have an opportunity to share with me what's going on. I will listen intently, answer any questions about me or therapy, and give insights at the end. I want my client to be relaxed and enjoy the front porch approach to counseling on the first visit.
My greatest attribute is listening. Yes, I do talk, but listening is most important. I have lots of tools in my behavioral health toolkit, I can use. In grief therapy, I have discovered a technique I will use that has positive results. My primary approach is to create an atmosphere of calm in each session.
I know personally what loss is. I have lost my family to death and four furry babies. Grief and trauma have a big impact on a person for years with no closure. I have certifications in grief and trauma to treat clients with passion and empathy. I do see clients with depression, mood disorders, including anxiety. I like to explain the "why" in counseling.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is widely used and accepted by clinicians. CBT considers cognitions ( thinking, thoughts, negative and positive self-talk) and how our thoughts affect our behavior. I beat myself up by put downs towards myself,
I am a person of faith. I do not talk about religon, but if there is a client who wants a Christian point of view, I am willing to give a Christian perspective.
