New to Grow
I decided to be a counselor because I understood the importance of someone who looks like me doing this work. My goal is to create an open and affirming space for everyone including, Black bodies, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and those creating healthy non-traditional relationships. Anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and trauma are common issues that can impact your day to day lives and close relationships no matter your background. By the end of therapy, you will be more confident in speaking up for yourself and creating healthy boundaries. I utilize a strength-based approach that combines different therapeutic modalities that address generational trauma, negative self-talk, and strategies to improve your mood. I tend to tailor treatment to each individual to fit who they are and their needs.
Our first session is our time to get to know each other. I do my best to be an authentic and transparent as possible. This initial meeting allows you to see me and me to see you. A good therapist is not just one that asks thought provoking questions, but one who you feel comfortable opening up to. This is your chance to really see how well we can work together.
My greatest strength is that I will state that I am the expert in your life. My role is to help deepen your understanding and to help guide. But you are the expert not me.
Making the decision to start therapy is not always an easy one. So, thank you for even being here. This means that you are open to exploring what is working and not working in your life. I work with a lot of individuals who are in the beginning of their journey trying to understand themselves and the impact of their experiences. While I can imagine how confusing this time is, this is also the perfect time to take a step forward.
I use this method to explore the interaction between thinking, feeling, and doing. I want to help people understand the difference between our knee jerk reactions and our desired response.
