Hello! I'm Danica Gurdinak. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in New Jersey. I work with both children (12+) and adults. I graduated from Chestnut Hill College with a M.S. in Clinical & Counseling Psychology, as well as, a concentration in co-occurring disorders. Following this, I have been working in the field for five years. There is an old quote that says "Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional." This is a saying that I came to live by & is one that I hope to teach to my clients. Life is unfortunately not always sunshine & rainbows, but it is up to us to give ourselves the skills & tools we need to not suffer through it. Overall, I hope to gift my clients the support, guidance, & mindset to overcome and find their strengths. In DBT, the objective is to build a life worth living & that's the work I do with my clients.
Usually my first session is really about getting to know my client: their history, their family/important players, their preferences, and goals. It's also about rapport building and clients getting to know me!
I keep it authentic, equal, and at times playful. I believe working with me feels like having someone truly care for you .
At this time, I provide individual therapy and specialize in mood disorders (depression, bipolar, anger), anxiety, BPD, & trauma. For the past five years, I have worked in all levels of care from residential/hospitals down to outpatient. I use various methods, mostly solution-focused, DBT, CBT, & ACT.
ACT is a wonderful treatment option as it helps connect us with our authentic self, our values/morals, and building the life we want. It includes metaphors and external examples that help build insight and motivation to help us see challenges in a new light.
DBT is my preferred method. I use it to provide the answers many are searching for in therapy. DBT includes a shift in mindset/lifestyle, coping skills, and further insight on self.
