As a nationally-certified, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, I have extensive experience working with clients dealing with mood disorders, anxiety, PTSD and/or trauma-related symptoms. Coupled with my background in coaching, I will engage you in two ways: 1) a look back at the conditions which contributed to your current distress and 2) a look forward to define how you want to shape your future. This involves creating a specific vision of your desired outcome and a plan to achieve it. I wholeheartedly believe in the change process and, while difficult, it can lead to a more peaceful, satisfying and productive future. I am bilingual, bi-literate and bi-cultural (English-Spanish) and have worked with diverse populations both in the United States and abroad for the last thirty years. This has allowed me to develop a high level of attunement to the needs and challenges that people may face based on their diverse and unique backgrounds. I am a firm believer in people's ability to identify solutions to the problems they are facing. What you will experience with me is an atmosphere of acceptance, empathy and a non-judgmental approach. Additionally, I will encourage you to define goals for yourself and work towards achieving and/or exceeding them. In support of therapeutic work, I incorporate my background as a mixed media artist. I believe in the healing power of the creative process and incorporate some form of Expressive Arts (dialogue, writing, visual arts and/or music), as clinically appropriate. In workshops that I facilitate, I also utilize Expressive Arts prompts to support individual and group processes.
In our first session together, here's what you can expect
I always like to start our first session by letting you get to know me. Therapy can be so beneficial if it's a good fit between client and provider. I ask people to ask themselves "Could I see myself talking to her about what's important to me?"
The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions
I enjoy getting to hear people's stories about how they came to be where they are right now, along with where they hope to go in the future. Additionally, I believe, wholeheartedly, in people's ability to affect change in their lives, on their own and with the help of a trust provider. It's a privilege to be a part of that journey.
The clients I'm best positioned to serve
I always share with new clients that I will never be the expert on you. That's you. What I'm really good at, though, is helping people identify what's not working well currently, tracing it back to past influences and, then, pivoting forward to what you would like to experience in your day to day life. We're a team.
Trauma-Focused CBT
I am a nationally-certified, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapist. This framework allows me to work with you on identifying how past, lived experiences may be impacting the quality of your day to day life. Our work together would also include a desired future experience of day to day life and, in support of that, tools and techniques to move in that direction.
