(he/him)
Hi! I'm a Licensed Certified Social Work Clinician (LCSW-C) based in Maryland. I received my Masters from the University of Maryland and have been practicing for 16 years. I help adolescents, adults, families and couples managing emotional discourse and distress impacting their ability to function at their highest healthiest potential. I am also certified as a certified clinical trauma practitioner with expertise in various treatment modalities such as CPT, CBT, EMDR, and ACT therapies.
In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, orientation into the therapeutic process by discussing goals and expectations; then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help us create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions.
Through my professional experience, I've found it best to work collaboratively with individuals within all phases of the therapeutic process to include goal identification, treatment planning and development of task-centered actions that challenge ideas and actions that do not promote growth or progress towards your goals. I consider myself a helping agent who encourages change that offers different perspectives based on clinical grounded evidence-based approaches.
I enjoy working with individual who are open-minded and welling to learn different approaches that challenge factors which adversely impacts their overall potential and healthy functioning. My clients are eager to improve, but don't yet have the tools needed to make this goal a reality. They often feel doubtful, overwhelmed and anxious and seek change that promotes their best qualities and highest abilities for obtaining their desired goals.

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
ACT framework seeks to focus on unworkable attempts to control or get rid of pain and pain-related thoughts and emotions can lead to more problems. The avoidance of pain tends to make us lose sight of our values and thus lose our quality of life.

I enjoy working with Carlton. He does a great job of listening and showing empathy while encouraging growth.

It is unfortunate that we can only select two options regarding the style of a selected therapist. I chose Carlton because it appeared that we had shared experiences, and this his life and family structure would compliment my needs, I couldn't have been more accurate. He is an amazing therapist, his warmth and authenticity, along with his open-mindedness, have me looking forward to each session. Both my wife and I have noticed a positive difference in my views and approach regarding specifics.
