Hello, my name is Catherine DeShetler and I am a LCSW-C. I have been working in the mental health field since 1997. For the last 9 years I have had my own practice. A large percentage of my clients have a history of addiction issues. I worked in an inpatient rehab for 4 years. I have worked in positions ranging for inpatient hospital to community support. My experience has given me an eclectic style. My clients are the experts in their own lives. If you are reaching out for therapy there is something you want to change. I enjoy helping people and watching them grow and find the ability to change what they can and cope with what they can't.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

First session I want to learn about you and for us to see if our personalities work will together. I will have to ask questions but typically will learn the most information from conversations. I'm looking to learn why you are reaching out for help. I would like to talk about what has worked for you in the past so that we can build on it. From there we start to plan for working together. I will show you a genuine me in order to hopefully gain your trust and best help you.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My 27 years of experience have been eye opening. You are the expert on you and I want to learn about you so that I can besthelp you. I can make educated guesses but you ultimately are the expert in the room.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

Something happens, it goes through a filter of experiences and beliefs to become a feeling and potentially an action. As you learn about your particular filter you understand why you respond the way you do. Replacing old beliefs/understanding with new thinking can help individuals work towards life goals.

Eclectic

Everyone is different. What works for someone else may not be for you. Finding the words and approaches that work for you requires, I have found, some flexibility.
