“It’s not the load that breaks us down, but the way we carry it.” — Anonymous Life can get heavy, even when we’re doing our best to stay strong. But the truth is, we’re not meant to carry it all alone. God invites us to lay our burdens down and trust that He can bring peace, clarity, and renewal where we feel weary or weighed down. In our work together, we’ll unpack the load you’ve been carrying — exploring the beliefs and thought patterns that may be keeping you stuck — and replace them with truth, hope, and grace. My approach integrates faith, reflection, and evidence-based practices to help you realign your mind and spirit with God’s promises and purpose for your life. I support adults, couples, families, and groups who are navigating emotional imbalance, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship conflict, anger, and seasons of personal or spiritual growth. My professional background includes experience in the juvenile justice system, battered women’s shelters, psychology, and public education — all of which have deepened my faith in God’s power to heal and restore what’s been broken. During therapy, I help clients identify their God-given strengths, release unhealthy thought patterns, and develop faith-centered strategies for peace and purpose. Together, we’ll create space for healing that not only transforms your thinking but also strengthens your relationship with God and others. So, I ask you — are you ready to unpack and let God lighten your load?
The first session is all about connection — creating a safe, judgment-free space where you can exhale, share your story, and begin to release some of what you’ve been carrying. We’ll take time to discuss what brought you to therapy, what you’re hoping to work on, and what healing looks like for you. You can expect me to listen with compassion and curiosity, not criticism. Together, we’ll begin identifying patterns, stressors, and emotions that may be affecting your peace or relationships. I’ll also explain how the therapy process works, answer any questions you have, and outline a plan that feels both realistic and supportive of your overall well-being. My approach focuses on helping you gain clarity, uncover your strengths, and develop tools to manage life’s challenges with greater confidence and balance. By the end of your first session, you’ll leave with a sense of direction, a bit of peace, and the reassurance that you don’t have to walk this path alone.
I enter a partnership with my clients because we are all active participants in maximizing life experience. My focus is to assist you during your mental health journey. Therefore it is not "one size fits all," so the approach is tailored to you.
My current clients often share that my greatest strengths are my empathy, listening skills, and ability to make people feel truly heard and understood. I value connection and authenticity, and I strive to create a space where clients feel safe enough to be open, explore difficult emotions, and grow at their own pace. In addition to being a compassionate listener, I bring strong social and communication skills that help me bridge gaps, clarify perspectives, and guide meaningful conversations that lead to insight and change. My background in psychology, education, and human behavior allows me to approach challenges with critical thinking and balance — blending emotional understanding with practical strategies for real-world progress. Clients often describe sessions with me as both reflective and empowering — a place where they can process, heal, and begin to see themselves and their circumstances through a clearer, more hopeful lens.
My ideal clients are adults, couples, and families who are ready to do the work of healing — individuals seeking clarity, emotional balance, and renewed purpose in their lives and relationships. Many of my clients come to therapy during seasons of transition, burnout, or emotional exhaustion and are looking for a safe space to process their experiences and rediscover their strength. As a Christian therapist, my faith shapes the compassion and perspective I bring to the counseling process. However, I honor and respect each client’s personal beliefs and comfort level. I only provide spiritual insight or faith-based recommendations when clients express openness or interest in that part of the process. My goal is always to meet clients where they are — whether they prefer a spiritually integrated approach or a more traditional therapeutic focus. My ideal clients have a mindset that’s ready for change and a willingness to put in the work. They understand that therapy is a partnership — and that the process is only as strong as the effort and openness they bring to it. Growth happens when we show up honestly, stay engaged, and allow ourselves to be stretched in new ways. My clients often describe themselves as reflective, motivated for growth, and seeking meaningful change. They appreciate open dialogue, authenticity, and practical tools that help them navigate life with greater peace, confidence, and emotional stability. Together, we create a path toward healing that honors both the mind and the heart.

Sonya is the best therapist I have had. I love how she brings things into perspective and she doesn’t sugarcoat anything. She is straightforward and you’re gonna get results with her as your therapist.
