I’m Lakeya Mitchell, a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 20 years of experience supporting adults through life transitions, trauma, stress, and emotional overwhelm. I offer a compassionate, practical, and client-centered approach meeting you where you are while helping you build clarity, resilience, and healthier coping skills. My goal is to create a safe, supportive space where you feel seen, heard, and empowered to move forward at your own pace.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

I often describe our first session as a blind first date a chance for us to get to know each other and see if we’re a good fit. There’s no pressure to share everything at once. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, what you’re hoping for, and what support might look like for you right now. I’ll ask questions to better understand your experiences and strengths, and you’ll have space to ask questions about me and my approach. My goal is for you to leave feeling comfortable, heard, and confident about whether moving forward together feels right.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My greatest strengths are my ability to quickly build trust, create emotional safety, and meet clients where they are without judgment. With over 20 years of clinical experience, I’m skilled at helping clients gain clarity, identify patterns, and develop practical tools they can use right away. I balance warmth with directness offering honest feedback while remaining compassionate and supportive. Clients often share that they feel deeply heard, understood, and empowered, and that therapy with me feels both grounding and transformative.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I work best with adults who are feeling overwhelmed, emotionally stuck, or navigating major life transitions and are ready for support and meaningful change. My ideal clients may be dealing with trauma, chronic stress, anxiety, grief, relationship challenges, or burnout from caregiving or high-pressure roles. They are often insightful and resilient, yet exhausted from carrying so much alone, and want a safe, non-judgmental space to heal, gain clarity, and build healthier coping skills. I’m especially well-suited to support clients who value practical tools, emotional insight, and a collaborative, strengths-based approach to therapy.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a structured, evidence-based approach to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. In my practice, I use CBT collaboratively, working with clients to identify unhelpful thought patterns and behavioral responses that contribute to distress. I typically begin by helping clients build awareness of automatic thoughts and core beliefs, then use techniques such as cognitive restructuring, behavioral experiments, and skills training to test and modify these patterns. I also emphasize goal setting and between-session practice to support skill generalization and real-world application. Throughout treatment, I tailor CBT interventions to the individual client’s needs, strengths, and readiness for change, while maintaining a focus on practical strategies, measurable progress, and empowering clients with tools they can continue to use independently.

Couples Counseling

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in couples counseling to help partners understand how their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors interact within their relationship patterns. I focus on identifying unhelpful beliefs, assumptions, and interpretations partners hold about each other that often contribute to conflict, miscommunication, or emotional disconnection.
