A healthy mental state is essential at every stage of life—from childhood through adulthood. Mental health challenges can arise at any time, impacting not only mood and behavior, but also how individuals think, cope, and experience the world around them. As a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner and author, I specialize in working with adolescents and adults experiencing ADHD, anxiety, and depression, with a primary focus on ADHD and its impact on focus, emotional regulation, and relationships. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and tailored to meet each person where they are—helping them build insight, develop effective coping strategies, and move toward a more balanced and fulfilling life. In addition to my clinical work, I am the author of 'When Your Partner Has ADHD,' 'When Marriage Meets ADHD,' and 'Racecar Brain: Fast Thoughts, Big Feelings, and Life with Adult ADHD.' Through my writing, I provide practical, real-world tools to help individuals and couples better understand ADHD, improve communication, and manage the challenges of everyday life. I earned my undergraduate degree from Towson University and my graduate degree from Walden University. I am a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and the American Nurses Association.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I focus on helping clients create real, noticeable change—not just insight. Whether it’s improving focus, managing anxiety, or reducing relationship conflict, I work with clients to build practical tools that lead to better day-to-day functioning. I prioritize strategies that are realistic, sustainable, and effective in real life—not just in theory. Clients often begin to see improvements in clarity, emotional balance, and communication within a short period of time. In addition to my clinical work, my experience as an author allows me to share practical tools and insights that extend beyond sessions and support long-term growth.

My treatment methods

Supportive

My approach to treatment is holistic and individualized, focusing on the whole person—not just symptoms. I consider the connection between mental, emotional, and lifestyle factors, and how they impact daily functioning, relationships, and overall well-being. I integrate evidence-based care with practical, real-life strategies to support meaningful and lasting change. This may include a combination of therapy-based techniques, skill-building, and medication management when appropriate. Mind — I help clients develop tools to manage racing thoughts, improve focus, regulate emotions, and reduce anxiety through structured strategies, therapy techniques, and mindfulness practices. Body — We address the role of sleep, nutrition, movement, and overall health in supporting mental clarity, energy, and emotional stability. Life & Support Systems — I work with clients to strengthen relationships, improve communication, build supportive environments, and create routines that are realistic and sustainable. My goal is to provide clear, manageable tools that help clients feel more in control, more balanced, and better equipped to navigate everyday challenges.

Emem Ibanga was extremely knowledgeable, thorough, warm, and patient throughout the appointment. She listened carefully, answered all of my questions clearly, and made sure all of my concerns were addressed without making me feel rushed. She is honestly one of the best providers I have worked with for medication management and mental health concerns, and I left feeling informed, supported, and comfortable with the plan moving forward.
