I offer online counseling to help adults recover from childhood wounds. These issues can present as depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem and interpersonal challenges. I approach counseling as an opportunity to understand your story and help you develop a path to healing. It's human nature to want healthy relationships, meaningful work and activities you enjoy, to have a good quality of life. If you're experiencing ineffective communication skills, career dissatisfaction, parenting challenges, family/relationship stress or feelings overwhelm, I would be glad to help you improve upon these problems. I utilize the following models of treatment depending on the needs of each individual: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Mindfulness Interventions. I studied psychology at the University of Georgia, obtaining a B.A. in psychology in 1998. Later in my career, I obtained a Master of Social Work from Valdosta State University in 2011. I became fully licensed in 2015. I understand that life can throw you. some curve balls. My desire to help others improve their quality of life led to a career spanning twenty years.
In first session, I'll identify the purpose of therapy and what you can expect. We'll discuss expectations and explore your needs and goals. It's important to understand that therapy is an active process and strategies need to be practiced in between sessions. Also be aware that progress is not linear but you can re-engage to improve your quality of life.
Together we will use the following models of treatment to improve your emotional & mental health: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Mindfulness Interventions. Solution-Focused Brief Therapy and Mindfulness Interventions. It's beneficial to reinforce our therapy sessions with workbooks, self-help books, movement/exercise, journaling and mindfulness activities to truly actualize the change you want in your life.
My biggest strength is that I believe in our own, unique ability to heal. I've supported people on their journeys for twenty-three years and know for a fact, it can be done. The right therapist feels like a supportive accountability partner. Progress happens when you take action consistently. You do not have to be stuck in your past. Change can happen.
I best serve individuals who are motivated to make changes. While reluctance and hesitation are a part of the human experience, know that I use action based strategies to help change mindsets that are problematic. I work best with clients who plan to be consistent in therapy, attending sessions on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, until you've reached your goals. I work best with clients who are seeking therapy to improve their quality of life. You'll work best with my therapeutic style if therapy is motivated by an internal drive to work on yourself. Dissatisfaction in life may be include symptoms of depression, anxiety or frustration in specific areas of life. My ideal client has a level of self awareness that "something isn't right." My ideal client needs help parcing through situations that repeat themselves, in a way that's painful. Working with me acknowledges that hard things happened in the past and that those experiences don't have to dictate your future.
