(she/her)
Hi there, I’m Liane—a licensed therapist and certified school counselor with over five years of experience supporting individuals through life’s many transitions. At the core of my practice is a person-centered approach, grounded in genuineness, empathy, and just the right amount of humor. I believe that everyone—even therapists!—goes through times of stuckness, pain or wanting or needing change, and sometimes all it takes is a supportive, guiding hand to help find the way forward. My specializations include; addiction counseling as a Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC), Family Systems, Couples Counseling, Brief Solution Focused, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). In addition to individual therapy, I bring my background in the school system to offer career and college counseling, as well as support with academic or school-related concerns. Whether you're navigating as a parent, student, personal challenges, considering a career shift, or exploring future educational paths, I’m here to help you clarify your goals and move toward them with confidence. Outside the office, you can usually find me bass fishing or tending to my garden—two things that keep me grounded and connected to nature. I look forward to connecting with you and walking alongside you on your journey.
In our first session together, my main goal is to get to know you and create a open relaxing space where you feel safe to be yourself. We'll talk about what brought you to therapy, what you're hoping to work on, and any goals or concerns you might have. There’s no pressure to have it all figured out, this is simply a starting point for us to explore together. I’ll ask some questions to better understand your background and current challenges, and you’re always welcome to ask me anything about the process. My approach is relaxed, genuine, and collaborative—with a touch of humor when it fits—so we can build trust and work at a pace that feels right for you.
I believe that my dual experience as a licensed therapist and certified school counselor, I offer a unique perspective that bridges emotional wellness with practical guidance, to focus on empowering clients to tap into their own strengths and insights, and I work collaboratively to help them find clarity, build confidence, and create meaningful change in all areas of their life. My strengths of adding lightness and humor when needed relives stress and provides more openness.
I’m best positioned to support individuals who are navigating periods of change, uncertainty, or self-discovery—whether that means managing stress or anxiety, substance mis-use, exploring a new career path, facing challenges at school, or simply feeling stuck. Many of my clients come to me feeling overwhelmed, unmotivated, or unsure of their next steps. They’re often insightful, thoughtful people who just need a space to slow down, be heard, and figure things out with someone who genuinely cares. With my background as both a licensed therapist and certified school counselor, I’m especially experienced in helping teens, young adults, and professionals explore their goals, values, and identity. I offer support with career and college decision-making, academic stress, and life transitions. My person-centered approach creates space for you to feel understood without pressure or judgment—and yes, I believe therapy can include a little humor, too. If you're ready to reflect, grow, and take manageable steps forward, I’m here to help you do that at your pace.
In practice, we identify negative or unhelpful thoughts, challenge them, and replace them with more balanced and realistic ones. We also try to learn to change behavior patterns that contribute to emotional distress. Through techniques like journaling, thought records, and behavioral experiments, CBT helps people build healthier thinking habits and coping strategies, often leading to improved mood and functioning.
We will work together to identify clear, achievable goals and explore times when the problem was less intense or absent. By using techniques like scaling questions or the “miracle question” to help the client envision their preferred future or to take small, manageable steps toward it.
In Family and couples counseling, we are examining relationships by targeting behaviors and emotions that have been helpful and not helpful up until this point to make thoughtful responses and changes within our family system.
I use Motivational Interviewing to help clients explore their own reasons for change in a supportive, nonjudgmental way. I focus on building a strong therapeutic alliance through empathy and reflective listening, helping clients feel heard and understood. Using open-ended questions, affirmations, and summaries, I guide them to identify their values and goals, gently highlighting any ambivalence they may feel about making changes. Rather than telling them what to do, I support their autonomy and help them strengthen their own motivation and commitment to change—whether it's improving behavior at school, home, managing anxiety or making healthier choices.
I always try to lead with care, by I following the client’s lead, believing they are the expert in their own life and capable of finding their own solutions. By offering consistent support and acceptance, I help clients develop greater self-awareness, self-acceptance, and confidence to move toward personal growth and positive change.
