Hi! My name is Kaitlin Shaffer and I am a licensed mental health counselor. I have experience working in school and community mental health settings. One of my favorite thing about therapy is having the opportunity to experience walking with you on your journey for better mental health. I know starting therapy can be tricky but let’s start together. I hope to meet with you soon and get started!

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

With our first session, I love to know who you are and a picture of a day in your life. I am very focused on getting as much details and looking at the full picture.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I am very flexible and open-minded. I tend to want to be that partner in figuring out what works and does not for you. I am not afraid to learn new things!

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

As previously mentioned, I have found myself to meet people from all walks of life. I feel my skill set is well served for those who are struggling with feeling overwhelmed, confused about life transitions, and the next action steps to take for yourself.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

CBT has helped my clients explore how their thinking patterns can affect overall actions and feelings.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

DBT centers around four modules that help clients explore the need for emotional regulation and a balance of interpersonal relationships. DBT, in my pratice, has helped establish more reality based coping tools.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing helps us establish goals when we are uncertain how to begin. I have used Motivational Interviewing to start clients establish small goals that can lead to bigger topics.

Psychoeducation

Psychoeducation in my practice helps us learn different areas of our mental health needs while providing facts.

Strength-Based

A person needs must always be met with their strengths. Strength based treatment has helped my clients see how their strengths can turn into strategies.
